Katelyn is in a very unique position right now and it's not necessarily a good one.
- The best HS girls in the nation are about 10-20 seconds per mile behind her on any given day, which means all of her races are time trials.
- She is not allowed to race against high school boys, so the only competition is the clock.
- She is undoubtedly going to get offers for a professional contract soon if not already, however she can't compete and place well against the top pros plus that would mean she can't compete in the NCAA.
These facts bring me to the conclusion that the best option for her would be to get her GED as soon as possible and start going to college, where there are probably at least 10 women that have a shot at beating her any given day.
- If there are no rules against this, what college would make the most sense? Is anything close to Thiells, NY?
I understand this may sound crazy, but historically things don't turn out quite as well as they might have been able to in situations like hers. However, if the NCAA was an option I could see her continuing to have success as long as she wants to run.
It may sound like a sacrifice to leave her high school friends behind and "be a kid", but it's nothing compared to leaving behind a special talent you've been given. She's turning into a glorified circus act because what's she doing anymore can't be considered competing. She needs competition and the only fit for her right now is the NCAA.
