My best 5k came from a negative split, but I've never attacked a 5k either. I've never jumped off the line reeling at fast pace from the start and I'm always left questioning would I have done better. I ask because at the end of a 5k I usually feel fine shortly after it's over. I enjoy passing people in the final mile but give them props for the guts they have for "going for it" from the start. I know I could always go all or nothing in my next 5k and see how I do, but I want to know if your PRs came from positive or negative splits, maybe even splits?
