So, the countdown has been going on for ten days and Tollfefson was number 3, Freriks number 2 and number 1 is tomorrow. Who will it be?

From what I heard at the Running Event, Walmsley has brought in millions of new marketing dollars to the sport, so he probably deserves it. Pretty much what Ryan Hall did for marathoning in the US.
I like how the UROTY has been cycling for months. Smart off season training or indicative of the hard road to fame?
Agree. Has he made a statement about the cycling? Assume he's going to miss most of the early season racing?
Sorry but the real ultra runner of the year is outside of USA. The award is a joke and Walmsley crashed at both is key races.

Yup, Avery Collins. Dude had a year most runners dream about, yet was heavily overlooked. I bet I know why..

UROY is for north americans only.
I wouldn't have picked Jim for the top spot this year, but besides noting his failures, you have to acknowledge his successes.
started off with a big CR at Terawera in February. 21min CR, from 7:45 to 7:23
then got his WS entry at Gorge Waterfalls. CR 8:20 took 49 minutes off previous CR. this is April
DNF at western states in june
5:04 CR at speedgoat 50k in august. something like a 10min CR if you adjust to different courses, but faster than the old CR on the shorter/easier course anyway
5th at UTMB. behind some of the best ever to run the race.
plus a few wins at some lower tier races here and there...not even worth considering.
It may not have been a "good year" for Jim but it was still better than anybody else. He raced a lot, which IMHO is a requirement to be considered for this award. If Tim raced more maybe he'd be #1 but he chooses to focus on a like 2 or 3 races per year.
what about Avery Collins? wrote:

sorry to burst your bubble, but obviously the HURT 100 will not count for the 2017 UROY. Avery only got 6th at western and won the georgia death race. yeah he won some smaller ultras and the grindstone 100 but that's hardly a competitive race
