Agreed. Sage is a nice person and a talented runner doing what a lot of posters on this board would only dream of. He also happens to put himself out there for fans to see - his thoughts and failures, his workouts. I've never cared for watching elite workouts, etc. but I know that there are fans who get a lot out of that.

I agree with the poster who said that its more inspiring (and repeatable) to see the 2:18 type guys fighting for their goals than a truly elite marathoner run an effortless 2:06.

+2. We need more talented runners coming here and thoughtfully discussing training. I've never met him, but based on his posts, he seems like a nice enough guy and one who tries to be, and is, helpful to others who are looking for advice.

He is shooting for 2:17. Weather on Sunday will be epic. 35-40 degrees with light winds. Course is generally flat with a few little hills on underpasses around mi 24. Sage has run Houston before and should do well if everything clicks. Given the conditions, I think he pulls it off and gets the 2;17.

Seems a decent chap, though from a quick look at some of his videos he seems a little ..putting this politely... chunky. He's too healthy looking. Most of the top marathoners look skinny and ill looking.

He's not chunky. Far from it. Has more muscle in the legs than some marathoners, but that probably helps him with the pounding in longer mountain races.

Maybe it was just the video I watched. But I didn't mean heavy weight boxer standard of chunky, just making the observation that his legs especially seem thicker than say Farah's for example. Does look like he could lose a lb or 2 which is a big deal over a marathon and could help get him to 2.17 or whatever.

I loved his videos when he was at Hanson-Brooks. Funny as heck. I think > 2:20 is more realistic.

Big fan of Sage. Hopefully he gets his OTQ. Since this is a prediction thread, I would say 2:18

I see what you are saying, but I think there is little you can do to decrease the muscle mass in your legs, nor would you necessarily want to (starting as a runner obviously its easy to increase through weight lifting). Canaday is obviously very lean and fit...one can't just whack a couple pounds of muscle off. Body types are just different.

He has run 2:16, and climbs like a mountain goat so obviously his legs work for him. And as was mentioned, a bit more muscle does help in true mountain runners on climbs and pounding descents too!

He ran a bunch of marathons a couple years back trying to get OTQ and his best was 2:19 and change at Boston in poor conditions. I'd say he is in the 2:18 to 2:22 range with 2:20 being realistic. Unfortunately he is far too nice to channel pure hate and run sub 2:18. But best of luck to him and I look forward to his post race analysis. I think 50K to 50 mile mountain racing is his forte but I admire his willingness to get out of his comfort zone and attempt other distances.

you say that but he ran a 1;04;32 half marathon id say that is his best road/track performance its just 64 half marathons dont win races yet slower equivalent results in mut can

On pace through 22 then the wheels start falling off. Either 2:21 high or DNF (save yourself for another day if you are not getting it).

The forecast calls for a headwind the last eight miles as the course turns onto Memorial past mile 18. This site has a headwind for 31% of the course - only 6-7 mph though). Thirty-one percent would equate to about eight miles. There are a few times in the last section where you are going South, but it looks like mostly into the wind this year.

The quotes of the day from everyone will be about how hard the last few miles were with the wind.
