I hope this is the correct section to post. If not, pls let me know.
To start: some background info:
I am 48, about 128 lbs, and 5 ft 5 in.
I hike and walk quite a bit, have done some moderate to hard hikes, and generally in ok shape.
New to running, though.
So I want to train for 5k and have started using the c25k app.
When I run, I experience a pain that starts at the top of my left foot just below the ankle. (about the middle of the top surface of the foot) It spreads to about 5-6 inches above the ankle, perhaps even higher. That's the only area that hurts, and it's all on the FRONT of the leg. Knees do NOT hurt. This is mostly on the Left foot. VERY little on the right foot. same symptoms and area. I can keep running with it but it's pretty painful. When I stop running and start walking it almost goes away completely and comes back when I start running. I never feel this type of pain when hiking or walking. Not even during a hike that gained 3500 ft elevation in 4 miles. I do stretch a bit before and after running.
Now, the shoes: the shoes I was recommended (because I have a wide toe area) are Altra Torin 2.0 with a ZERO DROP. I wear regular shoes (hiking, working, casual etc) otherwise. I am starting to think if the zero drop is the culprit... I have a hard time not landing on heel also because if this.
Has anyone here STARTED running in zero drop shoes? can they be the cause of the pain?
Any advice/thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
