Well that's definitely your choice and right to do so, but the guy's not wrong. Running is not a sport; running is typically exercising for actual sports. It falls into the category of "Athletics." Just like swimming and cycling.......

If you put your ear to the ground over his grave, you can hear him swearing. Am I going to stop buying Nike just because it isn't being sold out of the trunk of a car anymore? No. Like most people, while I have my preferred running shoes, a bargain is a bargain and I will buy whatever happens to be a good buy, regardless of the brand's CEO or his/her feelings about the state of out sport.

It’s working! Kohl’s has recently seen a massive surge in sales (6.9%) which sees them bucking the trend that is destroying so many other retail stores. The lesson being: go ahead and do what you want for you, just don’t expect it will make any difference.

Agree; brand is irrelevant. My purchases are based on my need and the applicability of the product itself, not politics. Just bought a pair of Brooks Hyperions for hot weather racing this summer. (Last Brooks was just out of high school) How's the saying go; if the shoe fits?

The difference is nobody else cares about my Kohls experience (though Kohls is full of dirty, rotten, scumbags). The CEO's dumb comments were plastered across the front page of the largest running website in the world. That's not good any way you cut it. I won't shop Brooks anymore, and I'm glad to know a number of others feel the same way. If you don't care, that's fine.

I've been wearing Brooks shoes since the company started. They are good shoes. I don't remember who won the last olympic marathon or super bowl. Who cares.

Stupid and offensive to 'runners', but 'meh'.

Brooks CEO says the Brooks market is a lot of "self-defined runner[s]" and that "running isn't a sport". The bit about the Olympics and not knowing what shoes people wore does sound, as others have said, like sour grapes for not being Nike.

At best it sounds like he was trying to impress a business reporter with an edgy take on the definition of "runner". At worst it sounds like a leader who doesn't know his market who might also have a second-place mentality, justifying his own mediocrity in running and business. Other options are certainly possible, but just different points on the spectrum of stupidity.

Brooks Sports, Inc. is a Berkshire Hathaway company. If I were Warren Buffet I'd fire him for being stupid enough to get so much attention on Lets Run and send him a delicious box of See's Candies.

Interesting that right after the Bloomberg story broke and made its way to the message boards, the vast majority of responses were negative towards Brooks. Now we have more and more that sound an awful lot like this one. Almost like an organized PR effort on Brooks' part.

I actually just bought 5 pairs of their shoes.. Not based on the CEO's statements.. just like the shoes.

The CEO's comment was rather daft. Why risk offending half your customers? But do we really need to rush to boycott every business just because we don't 100% agree with everyone's opinion who owns the business, or ever worked there? At a certain point, the call to boycott just gets a little silly. Don't be so easily offended like this lady
