Awesome picture there, how do you get that to show up if it isn't in the article you're linking? Fancy html trick?
I noticed there is no 10k rankings. Wouldn't it make more sense to rank 5k/10k instead of including the 3k?
Racist. It's Mohammed now...

I was thinking the same. The 10k is a bigger event than the 3k...
These rankings look pretty good tho I think.
I like the rankings, and a good call on Edris as #1. A case could be made for Mo, but I believe you got it right.
People ask about 10,000 rankings. I recall when Let's Run started their world rankings, LR published their reasoning for not ranking the 10K, largely that it's not run that much.
Certainly, it's not run as much as the 5,000 but there are still good races every year, and these past couple years in particular. So I don't buy it! I want 10,000 rankings. It's a cool event with a fantastic history. If casual fans can't dig it, that is OK.
The real reason for no 10k rankings is that The Bros don't like the 10,000, am I right? This is part of their war on the event. They want it scrapped from the Olympics. As you can see, these men are deeply evil!
We don't hate the 10k.
But outside of Worlds, the event is barely run internationally. Pre got rid of its men's 10k this year. There hasn't been one in Brussels since 2012. Payton Jordan still has one but the truly top guys don't run it.
In terms of major 10ks, you had Ostrava, and then the various countries' WC trials (I'm counting Hengelo as the Ethiopian trials).
I guess there is a precedent for ranking events where the athletes only race once or twice a year (we do marathon rankings, after all), but in the case of the 10k, Worlds is so much more important than all the other races -- and was so much faster this year (the top 9 times came from Worlds) -- that our rankings would basically just be the results from Worlds.
As for why we did 3k/5k instead of 5k/10k, it's because the Diamond League groups the events together. It's also easier to rank the 3k/5k together than the 5k/10k because if you ranked 5k/10k you'd have to incorporate two sets of WC results, not just one.
Umm Craig Lutz???
Thanks for the post on the 10,000 Jonathan - well put.
It's fun to tease you guys a bit; in truth the coverage at Let's Run is outstanding.
Even the trolls are entertaining.
For a second there I thought this was a list of dopers...
Mo should be #1.

Then they'd have to give Mo the top spot
If Edris was the champion and has the world lead as well there is no way he isn't number one.
