Summary: 4:54 miler looking to break 4:40 this season. Have improved drastically aerobically since that 4:54 two months ago (or so it feels to me, ran 18:15s in xc). Was doing 35 mpw, now doing 35-40. However, since I started doing workouts again three weeks ago, I have started hammering my long runs (most coaches I have read like Canova & Daniels suggest this). I do a 70 min long run every Sunday, on my last two I averaged 7:10 and 6:50. I do take my easy days easy and I don't go to the well on my other two weekly workouts (but fairly close), but during the long runs I am usually dead at around 50 minutes and just hang on for the last 20 (Usually I try to surge the last 10 minutes and it ends up being about the same pace or a little slower than the first 50). Too fast or am I reaping the benefits of good quality?
