Anybody know any good ways to keep the legs warm besides tights? they always feel too tight and like they are messing with the way my knees bend. I would say sweats but I hate the way the bottom of them flap. any ideas? vaseline?

get some of the sweats that are tighter around the ankle
I've never heard anyone say that regarding knees bending and tights. Maybe your tights are too.... tight?
Either way, I have two pairs of tights - the regular, thin kind that I think you are talking about, and a much thicker thermal kind for much colder weather. Those are a fair bit more loose and are still tapered at the bottom (I hate the flapping type, too). I don't know where you live (they might be too warm for your winter weather), but maybe you should get them:

My knees hurt after the first 2-3 runs in tights and then they stop.
If you really don't want to wear them, wear loose fitting wind/rain pants.
What temp are we talking about? 10 degrees with minimal wind just wear your shorts your legs will heat up fine and no restriction from tights.
They're called 'joggers' for a reason.
Running pants would seem to be the obvious choice.

10 degrees Fahrenheit is not shorts weather, unless it's a race. If I wore shorts for a regular training run in 10 degree weather my legs would be beet red and numb by the end. Maybe I'm getting old, but shorts in weather like that is insane. And I'm in Canada, so I should be acclimated to stuff like that.
For regular training runs (not races) I generally put the shorts away wear the thin tights at anything below 40 F. The heavy tights come out at around 15 F. Thin tights under the heavy tights when it gets to -5 F and below. Add long johns to the equation when it gets below -20 F.
midwest winter, consistently 20 or under
Sporthill pants.
Sport Hills as posted above, or the Hind Munich Tight, which is actually a pair of pants, name notwithstanding. Love the Munich Tights.
I’ve experienced something similar with the knees although I think I get used to the tights over time. A good loser option are Nike track pants (not sure of the exact model name). They are an intermediate between sweats and tights. They are very close to the leg and tight on the ankle ( there’s a zip too) but are definitely pants and not tights, so there is a little extra room for the knees. I use them for easy runs when it’s in the 20-35 range (they’re not quite as warm as tights) and I wear them to late season xc meets as well as a warmup for indoor and early season outdoor races.
Anyone who says 10 degree weather is shorts weather as a blanket statement is being ridiculous. Obviously, perception of temperature is different from person to person. IMO, unless you’re talking about a race there’s no reason to be colder than you have to.
Try sport hill. Go to their website. They have gear that falls between between tights and pants/sweats. You won’t find higher quality than sport hill. Top class gear they make.
agree with the sporthills-worn 'em since the '80s-not saggy or loud like a goretex track suit, but not super tight either-wear longjohns usually since it does not get above 20 degrees much in Canadian winters....
Inside treadmill.
There is a reason they play basketball INSIDE in the winter. They are obviously smarter than some of you runners.

Must be crazy, doesn't bother me much unless there is piercing wind.

Who the heck would go on a run in -20 F weather? ? I think that would be an obsessive disorder.
Google Embrocation Cream.
Cyclocross racers use it all the time to keep legs warm and keep dirt off.
You are welcome :-)
