This is all very simple. John Hancock the sponsor wants an all American field of americas best.
They are providing major appearance money to get all the best Americans on the line. European marathons are not coughing up the money to get them to jump ship.
None is of these athletes are scared they just cannot turn down the money and if all goes well a win at Boston.
