Sucking up exhaust from lead cars for two hours. I mean it sure doesn't smell good, unless you're into that, but what about the health effects? Shouldn't they use zero emission vehicles?

Hey, they could use a Nissan Leaf for all I care
I mean, 57 people have broken 27 mins for a track 10k and one person has done it for a road 10k.... with all the tiny adjustments athletes at that level make, clean air is worth at least a a couple seconds per mile??
Try running instead of fellating exhaust pipes.

I always wondered about this. I agree
Studies have been conducted in the lab with rats and mice that shows that automobile exhaust decreases exercise performance. Sounds awful, but they put rodents on little enclosed treadmills and pipe in controlled levels of car exhaust. The results are interesting and suggest that it doesn't take much to adversely decrease performance.

Why is that awful? Mice and rats love running.
