Double everest of kilian jornet
The shadow of doubt
Contrary to what has happened in the rest of his most famous ascents, there is no conclusive evidence of the double summit in Everest of Kilian Jornet last May. This situation, atypical in the incredible history of the mountaineer and runner, has raised some alarms about the veracity of his climbs to the roof of the world. Next, the arguments that discredit the activity and Kilian's answer about the doubts that arise.
The role of the Himalayan Database and some websites
The completion of Kilian Jornet on Everest has coincided with an important change in the way of documenting the ascents in the Himalayas carried out by Miss Hawley.
Everest1953.co.uk launches the pump
The English website everest1953.co.uk, which has been documenting the speed records on Everest for years, published an extensive report in mid-December on Kilian Jornet's double ascension. The text, signed by "a person who wishes to remain anonymous", collected a deep documentation on the issue and analyzed one by one all the criticisms that had been made in different media (internet fundamentally).
A text ¿anonymous?
Behind that article was Dan Howitt, with whom we got in touch. Author of several speed records in mountains such as Mt. Rainier, all in Alaska, has been meaningfully in the criticism against Kilian.
The report and Kilian's response
These are the main criticisms -we have overlooked some that seemed to us either diverting attention from the main objective or that, directly, were too vague to constitute a discrediting evidence- together with the answers of a document prepared by Kilian himself.
Satellite phone / Dan criticizes the fact that he did not use his satellite phone at or near the summit, either to reassure family members, friends or his companion and cameraman Seb Montaz, or to share with them the joy of having achieved the top.
Photos and video / The majority criticism of Kilian Jornet comes from the fact that he has not published any photograph or video that demonstrates conclusively that he was at the top.
Timetables and witnesses / Another criticism expressed about Kilian's ascents lies in the fact that he reached the summit at night on both occasions.
Interview Kilian Jornet
Experimental Himalayism
Two Everest express in six days, one of them from Rongbuk. Without oxygen, without companions, without telephone, without hardly using fixed ropes ... Two tops in the dark, two complicated descents and, the most bitter episode, the doubts about the ascents upon their return. Kilian, sincere and eloquent, tells us about the world of possibilities that opens up after his "experiments in height" and also lists the arguments against discordant voices.
