Just bumping this great thread to ask what people think of the bulk of the easy pace running of Moen. A lot of this is around 6:00 /mile, which at first glance seems like pretty high quality, but given that it's about 25% above his Marathon pace, perhaps it's not so extreme. As another poster pointed out, this would be like a runner with 6:00 MP taking their easy days at 7:30, which hardly seems remarkable.
On the other hand, Canova has indicated that these runs are occurring above 7000ft and on rough and undulating terrain. Does anyone have a sense of what these paces might equate to on reasonably flat (or just moderately rolling) sea-level courses? I guess I'm interested to see that, aside from some truly regenerative efforts, the bulk of Moen's running is done at steady aerobic paces worth no slower than 1.25 * MP. Are these runs comparable to maybe 20% above marathon pace? Is that too fast, or are they even more intense if he was on less difficult, sea-level courses?
Just curious other's thoughts on this. For reference, a 2:20 marathoner (5:20 MP) has 1.2*MP = 6:24, and 1.25*MP = 6:40, and for 2:37 (6:00 MP) we get 7:12 to 7:30 for 20-25% above MP. [The fact that Moen running 6:00 pace is like a 2:37 marathoner running 7:30, or a 2:20 guy running 6;40's, drives home just how supremely fit these top marathoners really are].
