It's a tough race, Looks cloudy which is good, but some rain and temps getting into the 70's. Smooth sailing while it's still dark, but the second half is not great, then a nice hill around mile 24.

I predict 2:39.
Nick's a gamer and has 20 years of competitive running in his wheel house. The Marathon is a whole other beast though. Maybe with a block of consistent 50-60 mpw, I'd say he was def sub 2:45 if paced properly, even for his first go around with 26.2. He sounds under trained but I still say he'll go sub 3:10, and maybe if the first 10 miles are paced properly, he could go sub 3. Going to be tough though. Excited to see the outcome.
A 21 hour finish at Mt Rainier transfers by my formula to roughly 8 hours for a marathon. Maybe 6:30 if he goes light and doesn't rope up too early.
Let's see how good that Run Gum works.
I was in a similar boat mileage wise for a two of my three marathons. 30-35 miles per week, with a 38 mile week the max for the one I trained slightly more for. 18.5 mile long run.
I ran that one in 3:06 (this is at age 39). He should be able to run that under 3:00. Well, unless conditions are brutal, like 70 degrees with 70% humidity).
On another note, it sounds like he went up and down Rainier in a day? That's pretty impressive if true!
I have a lot of respect for his 800m racing...less so than is ventures outside his specialty that include;
Ninja Warrior: Fell off first obstacle
Book: Unremarkable
Run Gum: Ick
Beer Mile: Last
Now a Marathon with 25 mpw build-up and 15 mile longest run.
I know I am commenting, but this may be a new publicity attempt low...even for him. What's next for him to hype and not train for?

He does not know how to properly refuel for 26.2
He says a Gu every 45 minutes and then RunGum at mile 20
He will not break 3 hrs.
First his training has been less than anyone would recommend for a marathoner. Sorry, not a big fan of hiking as supplemental training.
Second, it will be warm and humid. I have been to 2 HNL Marathons and thought the weather was awesome---awesome for me to be out on the course cheering on my runners, not a great day to be running.
However, I think if it comes down to a 800m kick with a guy from Osaka, I do think Nick will win that battle.

"nice"--I am assuming a little sarcasm there! Funny how my runners from Colorado did not think it was all that big of a deal. I really sold it as how it could be a tough since Diamondhead comes so late in the race.
Whatever happens, I'm sure Nick will blame USATF and Max Siegel for his poor performance.

Ha ha, 70 degrees with 70% humidity is like the weather everyday in Hawaii. It's gotta be a brutal marathon to run. Had a friend who did it on a rainy day and she said she was lucky with that.
But nice work on your 3:06 on low mileage. In theory I think Nick could beat that, but if he does go out at 7:30s, I'm thinking he gets closer to 3:20 in the end.

Supposed to be 72 degrees and 78% humidity, at the start. I predict a good start, decent middle and a blow out at the hill at 24. 3:30:01, with lots of walking at the end.

Rainier in a day is not impressive, it's slow AF. You can hump a tent and bag, stove and dinner and beer up to Ingraham and chill and sleep 8 hours, tag the summit and be back at the car in under 21.
Rainier in under 6 hours is impressive ( but still hours off the fast guys )

I ran HNL last year (2016). It was 71 degrees with 86% humidity at the 5:00am start. I only went in with the intentions of running it nice and easy, and even though I sweat a lot, by mile 4, I was soaked. Could've wrung out my shorts, singlet and socks!
That climb toward the end isn't terrible, but it's a bit of a grind, especially after 23 miles of running in a sauna.
I predict Nick will run 3:19:13.

Does the course go by Paris Hilton's beach house?
If, " yes," then DNF.

she rejected him, so he will definitely finish the race
