Hey so my wife and I are both about to graduate from college. She is an English education major and her school is offering an international student teaching trip to New Zealand where she’d get half of her required student teaching done. I think it’d be a great experience for her and would also knock out a lot of the student teaching.
We planned to graduate without debt, which we’re on pace for, and we’ve actually put about 6k into a Roth IRA. The trip happens to cost $5400 and we won’t be able to fund it without student loans or withdrawing from that Roth IRA. Does anyone know if this trip would count as a qualifying education expense to avoid the early withdrawal penalty?
