You put us back on top. Congratulations coach
Pitros.
Seems to be several rumors about the Big 12. They could be just that of course; just chatter?
Who replaces Boone at Tx Tech? Rumors of Kittley sought after to Texas. Seems unlikely given his age and the momentum they seem to be having the last decade. What about their jumps guy for a head job somewhere? Seems to be proving himself as a big fish.
Speaking of Texas, hearing Bucky from Arkansas to Austin possible. Where does everyone at Texas land if there is an outside hire? Would anyone be retained? They get paid an awful lot, would be hard to even make a lateral move from there. If TBB keeps the job, there will likely still be changes in staff.
What’s going on at OU? Budget and support is as good as anywhere. Terrible leadership there. S**t keeps rolling downhill.
If Smith goes to Washington, do they promote within or bring someone in? They have released a lot of their kids from the team so something is going down.
TCU was rumored to be on the chopping block before but seems to have turned things around some this year with international recruiting.
Brewer from Kansas likely to be sought after elsewhere at some point. Anything keeping her in Lawrence?

Washington is not going to Dave they are looking else where., he is a last option. Arkansas The buck at Arkansas is interested in a couple openings and really wants Washington . Texas Ad’s were all hanging at the track today., kind of unusual to see that take place.
Dave Smith us nobody's last option, get real.

Just out of curiosity, but does anyone know of any opening for a Div 1 assistant or head coach that has a very good pedigree as a jumps coach (high, long, triple) but also pretty experienced with other field and shorter sprint events?
Kind of an 'asking for a friend' thing. My friends resume looks pretty extensive to me (coached at several Div 1 colleges, among several others) and he publishes a lot of stuff and gets cited by other coaches for his techniques, but for whatever reason is having trouble landing a job (is the coaching field really that hypercompetitive)?
Give it about 2 weeks and there will be an opening in this events group.

Where did you get that figure? No way on earth the new track coach at Texas makes more than $300k.
Seriously? The 750k number has been kicked around for almost a month. That number is very much in line with their other staff salaries.
I have no idea if Petros is actually interested, but I'd take 750k in Austin over 180k in Athens in a heartbeat.
I don't follow this thread much buy my mom is friends and plays golf with Chris Plonsky . I don't have any inside info except from what Robert is hearing in Eugene from talking to other coaches.
But my impression from afar from UT athletics is they have so much money they really have to find ways to spend it and that means they can pay top dollar for any coach. According to Wikipedia they have 20 Varsity sports. Ohio State the #3 school in terms of revenue (UT is #2) has 37 varsity sport. UT has so much money per non-revenue sport it can pay the coaches really whatever it wants.
Or compare Texas to Oregon. Oregon has a small footprint in terms of number of sports like Texas. However they brought in $77 million less in revenue in according to USAToday (link at bottom) (Surprised to see A&M is #1 in revenue. I thought UT Network gave UT an advantage).
So Texas isn't going to just bank that extra $77 million and give it back to the school. It's going to spend some of it. "Gold plating" is a real economic concept. Essentially football subsidizes track and with this war chest, UT can spend really whatever it wants on a coach.
Check out this figure I just read:
"According to salary data previously obtained by the Statesman, the UT athletic department had 448 full-time staff members with an aggregate base salary total of approximately $47.3 million. The Longhorns typically have more than 500 athletes, creating almost a 1:1 ratio, something unheard of in major college athletics. "
UT actually laid off some people this week which actually may be a positive sign that they realize they just can't spend every dollar they make but I bet it wasn't higher profile positions.

This is what I am herring aswell. Especially with UNM possibly cutting men's track. But would not be surprised to see Franklin go to Notre dame. But something is definitely fishy at okstate.
These are most rumored rumors.
Texas interviews start hard tomorrow.
Petros will get offered but decline and Floreal will accept. Current Texas stays after his miler ran well.
Penn State sprints coach to Kentucky. Kentucky distance stays.
Joe Franklin to Washington.
Milt to Stanford and has to keep Sparks on. If falls through, Mike McGuire from Michigan.
Ken Harden to North Carolina. Pete Morgan distance there.
Penn State female distance to Virginia.
Dave Smith will never leave.
Robert Gary will never leave unless a real pro position offered.
Chris Fox trying to wait to officially accept Reebok so Brian Bell can slide in.
I’m new here...please educate me. Was FLO killing it at Stanford before he went to Kentucky? Do Texas and Kentucky have similar academic environments?
No floreal was not killing it here. He wanted SEC money, and a chance to win titles, but Florida does that. Academics , Texas is ranked closely with us in some areas but Kentucky has absolutely none in He lead of academics.
What's going on at UNC? Is the current coach leaving for Harden to be there or is he going as an assistant? Why leave UGA if not for a head gig.
I have heard there is actually 2 assistant positions open at unc. Distance and a nondistance. Take that for what you will.

Willmott must have worn out his welcome at Oneonta as this is a significant downgrade.
Anyone know what the story is there?
Oneonta posted his job after his first year, maybe they weren't pleased at that point in time but didn't like the applicant pool so they just kept him around another year. Heard he got fired from Vermont, maybe he should just stick to coaching Winter Olympics stuff.
Pretty simple... his wife has a good paying job up in Plattsburgh that she kept from his Vermont days and he wants to be closer to home. Why the dig on the “Winter Olympics stuff”? Did you have an athlete qualify for the Olympics?

Is it true Joe Franklin messaged the Washington AD asking if he could transfer there?
who the hell is "Pete Morgan" ??
Cornell has been informally interviewing in Eugene. Any names floating out there ?

I find it hard to believe there are any good paying jobs up in Platttsburgh, it's in the middle of nowhere. Did she keep that job the past 2 years while Brett lived 4 hours away? Why did Oneonta repost the head coach job last summer? Why did Brett leave Vermont in the first place?
And it wasn't a dig on the Winter Olympics stuff, he's actually done a pretty good job with those athletes who are competing at a much higher level than DIII track. His Winter Olympic resume is way better than his track resume. But yes, I have had an athlete qualify for the Olympics. Have you?
Yes she did keep it, he was an emergency hire the first year so they had to repost and he got out before that place went downhill.
Brenton Emanuel to EIU, hear he will clean house, ISU will need a new sprints coach as well
