I had to laugh at Abdel Wahab's appointment. Anyone who knows him knows that he has no problem telling everyone how "world-class" he is . The dude struts around a meet and always makes sure everyone is looking at him. Makes me just bust out and laugh.
Looks like it paid off
Didn't he marry his former athlete Tiffany McWilliams?

YES - and thankfully the karma of f**king your athletes is starting to catch up to some of these dirtbags.

Looks like a good time to be a minority in the coaching ranks. This coming from a minority btw.

Did he get fired for a relationship (and eventual marriage) from many years ago? Or, was there another issue?
Is this gonna be a domino effect? wrote:

I don’t think it has to do with his wife, but who knows what it is....
Tell that to the minorities trying to be distance coaches and not sprints or field event coaches. I can only think of like 3
I looove how much trash-talking occurs after someone else gets a job (that you obviously wanted/tried for). At some point you're going to have to come to the conclusion that YOU are the reason you aren't getting other jobs that you want.

Well, sometimes the trash talking is true. Often women and minorities are hired in a cc or t&f position because the ADs tell the head coach they need to hire one whether they are the most qualified or not. I’ve been in that situation before. The women that applied had no experience coaching at all and were distance runners applying for a sprints/hurdles job. Had a minority I had to interview for a distance job with only jumps coaching in his background. Thankfully, in both cases, the AD finally caved and let me hire the most qualified person for the positions I had. I feel that at some schools that push by the AD may not back off and they may need to hire a person they didn’t want.
Also, sometimes it comes down to a recommendation from a colleague on someone who may have no experience but you know they “have what it takes” to be a good coach. So though more qualified people may have applied, sometimes the best fit is a young, eager coach who will do it “your way” and help you achieve the goals you are working toward. Sometimes you may not get that vibe from some more experienced coaches.
Best advice, convince the coach hiring why you actually want THAT particular job versus every single job out there. Be actually interested in the university and team you would be potentially working for and make sure that comes across in your application.
Nothing to do with inappropriate relations with an athlete or former athlete. But I have heard rumors of his providing special supplements to athletes.
Still no announcement from Sac State on their Head Coach. Looks like the job isn't open anymore. Must be having some real challenges there. I feel sorry for the Assistants not knowing if they have a job or not.
Has grand valley done anything to fill their position?

I'm talking about race, ma'am. I'm referring to male and female hispanic, black, and asian distance coaches. I'm not at all trying to say they have it harder lol. I'm saying they don't have it any easier, which is the way it should be, and I'm saying that there are few of them in comparison. I wasn't suggesting a reason, just stating an observation.
Now I don't think it's necessary to dive further into what was said. You can a full study if you want numbers rather than just looking at the obvious. But I do apologize if it bothered you that I didn't include women. So let's just allow the thread to return to being about open coaching positions, thanks.
Holland Sherrer now coaching at Syracuse! (Laughing because these people are talking about minorities in coaching right now)
