Great guy, but this is what’s wrong with this sport. There’s so many guys trying to get jobs and this guy gives up one every year for a new shiny one... can’t hate the guy he’s not hiring himself, but it’s just a shame when looking at the big picture of college track and field coaching. I guess this sport is only cut out for certain types of people.
what a jumper he is.
He didn’t even stay at the same college as an undergrad haha
They forgot to put his real title on the graphic RECRUITING COACH,
I'm guessing you aren't a coach to have written your post. People disparage coaches who change positions, but where is the anguish for coaches who are sent packing when a new head coach takes over and cleans house? It's not indentured servitude, it's a professional position. Admittedly, there is also the human relations aspect as it relates to the athletes who have little to no say in who is chosen and who is shown the door, but I have no problem with a coach who chooses a position to their liking. Would you want a coach on staff who really wanted to be coaching elsewhere? It seems in Coach Flo's case, he is going to take the hit no matter whom he hires (as will the coach he chooses). I wish him and the Longhorns well.
This sport will end soon wrote:

I think people need to look at t he bigger picture of having the right coaches at the right institutions within the system of the NCAA, people look to small for the school allegiance, keep the best athletes in the NCAA, get the best athletes in the NCAA to the best places to get them to the highest level.
8th different job, he claims Texas tech accolades, was he even there the entire year? If I were a recruit coming to a program and he was going to be my coach my first question would be, “Will you be here next year?” After a while it does get silly when you leave jobs after only 1 to 2 years. Oh well,
Where is Ken Harnden?
Where is Sheldon Blockburger?
Who is Arkansas hiring for Jumps?

Nope
I have been a collegiate coach for going on 16 years. I’ll use a car analogy to better enlighten you.
If im getting a new leased car every year, yes it is going to be great and do it’s job, but is it truly proven to be as good(reliable, etc) as It is proclaimed to be? I won’t ever know that becuase I’m not challenging it as I’m only keeping it for one year.
Now as a recruiter he’s proven himself, it’s just like how that car is gonna do a great job that one year because almost any car (except ford lol) can and will do that for you. But at the same time theirs plenty of good coaches that aren’t given a chance in hell and are very Intelligent and could do a great job. So that is why I say this sport is going no where. We could definitely learn from college football, though it’s a business, recycles it’s head coaches like track, and has more coaching positions on staff, they go a great job of also fostering future coaches and giving then a fair shake to prove themselves. It took me 5 years to get my first full time gig and that just doesn’t make sense to me but I did It. Now a days it seems to be even tougher but I’m doing my part to help the youth. good day

I guarantee you aren't a coach to have written your post. Go talk to some actual coaches and see what they think about Devin West's career ladder. Report back when you find 1 that approves of it.

West is on like his 8th job in 9 years. How many of those changes were due to a new coach cleaning house. I believe that number is 0.

Well this is awkward
https://asunow.asu.edu/20180531-sundeviltfxc-announces-succession-planPat wants to be at Pitt. Pat wanted to be at Sanford, Texas and Arizona. Stop bringing Pat’s name up in any conversation.
So UVA is a done deal, now let’s move to the schools that matter in the ACC:
NDU women? Not Pat, probably Big 10 female
UNC : Herbster
VT: in House
Devin was hired by FLO because he got Tara Davis and Lynn’s Irby to sign to UGA. Recruiting superstar American athletes is not easy these days, you have to be skilled on social media and great in front of parents. That’s why Devin is so coveted.
Former college coach, current HS coach. I know how college coaches dog each other out for a variety of things. More often than not, that spills over into their comments to recruits. I suppose the thing that baffles me is why anyone else cares if a coach chooses and is able to move to a variety of positions? People saying that it damages the profession certainly have a right to their opinion and it's also quite alright if that differs from mine. I just wonder what's it to you all if Coach West has moved around. It's his choice and clearly he is good at what he's being hired to do or he wouldn't have been hired by so many Power 5 programs. I wonder if there is equal disdain for the programs which have hired him? For whatever reasons he has made those many moves, at the end of the day, it's his call. You do you and he'll do him. Why can't it be left at that? Oh because so many people get a kick out of disparaging someone else.
I know from experience how hard it is to get into the profession. I volunteered for 4 years at two different programs until I got a paid gig. It's a great profession, albeit one that rarely pays that well and I don't regret the years I sacrificed as that was my goal for as long as I could remember. Also, I respect people who do their best to represent the profession in an admirable manner. Having said that, it's also a profession in which far too many people can't just mind their own business and this is one of those times. Here's hoping that everyone reaps the benefits of their hard work and quits worrying so dang much about who is taking what job. Yeah, I get it, however, I'm just a high school coach and most likely not worthy of having an opinion among so many geniuses. Good luck, y'all. Take care of the kids us lowly high school coaches work so hard to develop from scratch.

Did I miss UVA women’s coach?
Knowing Fetzer, she will be good looking.
Reck, Utah State, Furman?

Those girls went to Georgia to train with Petros and Ken Harnden. Those guys have recruited amazingly before Devin got there and continue to after he left. I don’t understand how he gets so much credit for athletes choosing to go to an already dominant program with excellent recruiting coaches. He may have done some of the phone calls and a home visit or two, but to suggest he’s some master recruiter solely responsible for Davis and Irby is ridiculous. Devin was no master recruiter at Texas Tech and wasn’t at Georgia. When was he actually coaching anyone? Who did he sign at Arizona State this year? Does anyone know? Erick wants someone who doesn’t want to coach all the sprints, hurdles and horizontal jumps so he can do them himself.
This is Jason Patrick, a Longhorn alumni and parent. Whoever wrote this post talking about student-athletes that are near and dear to me- and seemed to make this look like me by saying you are an alumni, and did not specifically mention my son. I am not sure what problems you have with these outstanding young people and Texas- but you need help. I am reporting this and hopefully LRC bans you from this site forever. Wow!!!
