What are there so many distance coach couples coaching togther? is it just the result of the coach messing around with athlete culture that is prevalent in distance running?

Let's be real here...Sarah Haveman doesn't actually coach anyone. She is a glorified clipboard holder and does whatever Jake Stewart tells her to do. She is more like team mom, not a coach.
Agreed. Illinois should hire a good coach, instead of paying 65k/year for a clipboard holder.
Hey! I can give 65k to whoever I want to give 65k to. One of the perks of being a head coach. With Haveman around, now I don't even need to hold a clipboard anymore. I can collect 150k every year and no one, including me, cares how my athletes are performing. #Livingmybestlife

Not if they’re the same age. More likely they met through a common sport. I don’t think there is a “culture” that is any different than any other career/job/sport

What happened to coach Henderson?
Yeah, he is also fat and ugly. What a douche.

Does anybody know how the hiring process is? Like after you apply why does it take so long to hear back or be rejected?
if you have to apply you aren't getting it.
Not true. Most colleges take applications seriously. They usually have jobs open for 2 weeks. Phone interviews 2 weeks after that. Then Narrowed down to 3 candidates who visit campus 2 weeks after that.
Usually by the end of the campus visit an offer is made to the top candidate.
That's how it's supposed to go. Needless to say everybody isn't hiring by the book as they should or stick to the slow 6 week process.

Actually, Stewart has little to know interaction with the girls distance runners.
he will be back at Cornell. my understanding was that henderson was hired at the very last minute last summer. hence, he was probably technically considered "interim'" so they could make it happen quickly. would be shocked if he's not back at cornell in the fall. this is likely just a formality to finish what was begun a year ago.
Not sure this is even legal? Believe you have to post the job at least on your HR website for a certain amount of time when a position is open? Anyone else know if this is the case?
Why does it matter? If they want to hire their guy it doesn't matter if they post it or not. That person is still getting the job. Id prefer they dont post it if they already have in mind the person they are going to hire. Save me the time
Is LSU still planning to hire a throws coach?
If LSU is still planning to hire a throws coach, then maybe they will realize that Western Carolina HC is the guy for the job. Again, he has done amazing things with that program at WCU.
I heard he’s going to be best coach at chula vista
False

What is going on at Western? Are you about to be canned? Why throwing your name out for all these real positions?

Ok...this is serious misinformation. Here’s how it’s “supposed to go”....
EVERY SCHOOL OR STATE HAS DIFFERENT HR RULES!!!! THERE IS NO “BY THE BOOK”!!!
Look... some institutions have no requirement to post a job at all. The ones who do have this requirement have varying lengths of time that they must post the job for, and varying publications / websites where they can or must post the job. Any HC worth his/her salary is going to be actively recruiting before and during this process. They may review the unrecruited applicants, but it many cases they already know who their interview pool is ahead of time, and they are simply dotting I’s and crossing T’s for the Office of Institutional Equity on their campus.
Furthermore, I’ve seen posting requirements (for those who have them) as short as 3 days, and in as benign a publication as the school newspaper (at an SEC school). I’ve also seen schools who required positions to be posted on no less than 3 nationally recognized employment sites, and be posted for 30 days before phone interviews begin. However, almost all universities have some sort of “emergency” or “expedited” hiring process designed for time sensitive hires. They often choose to use this shortened process (when possible) if they know who they want.
Look... If you think that doing a bunch of applications, and sitting back waiting for a call is gonna get you a job.....let me know how that works out. This business is about networking, knowing the process, and being tied in with the right people BEFORE the process ever begins.
any word on Texas AM - sprint/ Mid -distance position ???
Thank you to misinformation for the informative post.
As a head coach who has hired many assistants the process works differently based on where you are. Some states have different regulations, and every institution has their own policies. If I knew who I wanted I simply posted the job on the university website and within seven days could then bring in candidates. If it was late in the summer some times HR let me simply hire who I wanted. Every situation is different. But what I will say to all the young coaches looking for jobs. I know of no head coach who hasn't kept a list of potential assistant coaches. It IS about networking. One of the candidates for my assistant position did not get hired. But he kept in touch with me on a consistent basis, and I watched how he developed at the place he was coaching. The next time I had an opening, I hired him. So to all the younger people, get to know the college coaches, do what you can to stay in touch with them, and then when its your turn do a great job.
