Wabash Head XC coach
Wabash Head XC coach
What happens to Colin Young? Did he gig to Augustana? The women’s coach is a North Central grad too who also coached at Williams.
This could be a great job for the right coach. Wonder which alum will chase it?
Who is in the running for utep? Could potential shake things up for midseason hires. I assume though it will just be a recent graduate from a texas or conference school or a retired/out of work coach.
Augustana (IL) press release on new coach:
Never heard of the guy. Anyone know him?
Jake is a good guy, he'll do very well at Augustana.
The real question is if Colin Young is no longer at Wabash and didn't get the Augustana job, where is he headed? Or was his departure from Wabash not planned? He's been removed from the Wabash website, but that of course could mean absolutely nothing.

My point is that it's extremely hard to get into the business and can be far less than financially lucrative. Be ready for that and also some people to not treat you right. Even if you do the right thing, you might still get the short end of the stick so it pays to have a plan B outside of coaching. That's where I stubbed my toe as well. No plan B and lots of succeeding stress on a marriage.
Advice of the thread here. Have a Plan B. Working 60 - 80 hours a week for peanuts - sometimes for people with crushing debt - to "live the dream" may sound romantic in your mid-20's...but a decade or two goes by & it becomes much less-so. Living like you're still in college/in your early-mid 20's when in your 30's & 40's or having to depend on a spouse to support you & your children, working for administrators who are only concerned with covering their a$$ (avoiding law suites) & making it "all about the student-athlete experience" (code for turning you into a glorified babysitter) while never having been competitive athletes themselves, or working for a head coach that doesn't want to mentor (or hell, coach) but just wants to keep going because they have nothing better to do while never having learned how to effectively manage people, and working for kids who know they are the ones calling the shots now can get demeaning at some point in your life when you have adult responsibilities & concerns. Yes, it can still be a great profession at times & in the right situation...but one you don't want to be held hostage to if you find yourself in the aforementioned situation...which many of us do...your priorities will change over the course of your life...
Fowler University is almost finished with interviews. They should have somebody in place by February 1st.

UCF makes hire
http://ucfknights.com/coaches.aspx?rc=995&path=wtrackTo add to that. At many Universities, you have the chance to start a Masters at a reduced cost, or even free if you grab an assistantship in a department. DO IT!!!

Gilreath was the only one not fired, so she is the interim head coach.
Does any know what happened to the Wabash coach?
UCF is hardly a "hire".
Interim is just a waiting game until they bring in someone more worthy.
I notice the throwers had a good start indoors, not so middle distance.
Who will be coaching the middle/long distance athletes at present. Will they have hired in a volunteer coach. They had a pretty poor winter in XC, things don't look like picking up any time soon.
With not making an appointment until May/June on the face of it, it looks like the athletes will have to go a whole indoor and outdoor season without a sprint or distance coach.
Not ideal to only have a throws coach who has been there 6 months as head coach and a director of operations who was only a volunteer up to Gray and Bolden being fired.
Any word on Creighton? Have they started any sort of process?
Did I miss something or am I confused? I thought I saw that David Thompson had taken the job at WIU?
The David Thompson story was just speculation from the LR community. Diane Wholey is an interesting hire. Read the release, has she not been coaching since 2008?

Not sure about the release, I believe that she was coaching at Texas Tech a year ago.
