So who got the Samford distance position? I have heard it is considered the Stanford of the South, no?

Who did get the Samford job??
Also, where McGregor kid going??
If Floreal was great to work with then why did Toby not go with him? Texas is the better job in his home state. So better questions:
Why did Toby pass up a dream job?
Or worse yet, if Toby did want that job, why didn't Floreal take the hottest multi/PV coach in the Nation?
Couldn't agree more, great hire for the Powells but equally great loss for Floreal and Texas
Who is to say that he was offered the Texas job or that he would even consider it to be a dream job? That's a lot of assumption as opposed to the fact that he worked with Coach Flo for quite a long time. Only Toby could say which job (IF both were even offered to him) was more desirable. Him taking the UW job clearly points to that being the one he most desired. It's quite possible that the aspect which put UW over the top is him being named Associate Head Coach. Perhaps his connections to college teammates were another advantage. Only he could say. I don't think him taking the UW position casts aspersions on Texas or Coach Flo. Sometimes people look to new challenges. Toby is obviously not adverse to taking on new professional challenges and has the cache to elicit choices of his liking. That we should all be in such an enviable position. Best of luck to the new staffs at UW and Texas. It's an exciting time in collegiate track and field.

I think the reasoning here is obvious. Vaulters make careers of getting high. Is Seattle, its legal to get high all day everyday. In Texas, not so much! Nothing like getting lifted before lifting!

Pat Licari is a Legend at UW!! Why they let him go is bizarre!?? Really sad the way these things go sometimes... Hope Pat gets on at his alma mater across the mountain at WSU and kicks UW’s Tail!!
Licari is clearly a great pole vault coach, but he hasn't established much else there in the horizontals, high jump or multis. Stevenson has established himself in other events. If they are going to have a distance focused team and 3 distance coaches as has been suggested, they need a coach that does more than one event well.
I actually could see McGregor somehow being Floreal's only option left...
I made no assumptions but you have made plenty. I said "a" dream job not his. I also offered two options, either offered and passed up or never offered. Both are bad for the Floreal argument because he either couldn't land yet another high end coach or never offered one of the best coaches in the nation who YOU assume have a great working relationship.
Also let's compare the two schools if we want to get into facts:
Overall budget - Texas
Coaches Salary pool - Texas
In state Talent - Texas
Cost of Living - Texas
Weather for Power athletes - Texas
Facilities - Texas
Tradition - Texas
Overall Athletic Dominace and exposure - Texas
Cost of School - Texas, 2k less on living expenses
Academics - Tie
Coffee - UW :)
So what's left? All the intangibles, work life balance, stress, scholarship control, working relationship among others that are all influenced one way or another by Floreal.
What isn't said/known is very powerful when lined up against the facts we do know, which when summed up:
Texas is a much much better job so what makes UW more desirable for Toby? Most roads lead to factors under Floreal's influence, that's what is so damning here.

Why does Illinois think they are an elite program. They had one of the best coaches ever in W. Angel and he could not do anything with that miserable program. I know D-3 programs who could beat UI in a duel meet,
The coaches act like it's an elite D1 program but then train their athletes like it's a D3 program. Sad.
Well when you have a D3 coach as your Head Coach!!!!!

I think Turk has done a pretty good job at Illinois. They haven't been good in Track in a long time.
Turkey is the nicest guy in the world but can't connect with athletes and with the academics/party culture at UofI along with it's location in champaign it's tough to get things going compared to other Big10 Schools.

The Texas position, paying $120,000 will not go the last man standing. Tons of quality coaches lined out the door. Flo won’t have to settle for a recently fired distance coach, with 2 years of experience, with no experience recruiting, and having coached only 2 athletes that could score in a Power 5 conference.
If Pat is hired, it speaks volumes that the distance area is of no concern at UT!
UT had their 2 candidates on campus and neither was McGregor. One will accept today so announcement will come soon.
The bigger mystery is in Eugene. Lack of rumors alone leads one to believe they are struggling to make progress as well.
So is McGregor going to be unemployed during cross country?

That is the nature of the profession.
Sometimes WHO you know isn't enough.
Floreal missed hard on Toby., Only two options here: Toby said Heck no which would be surprising as he is from Texas. Or Floreal was not smart enough to make an offer.
Pat was on campus at Texas. He told me he talked with floreal in an “interview”. Whoever they hire at least Floreal understood it would have been like waving a white flag and giving up on the distance. How would you like to be considered after Pat says no?
Are any of these mid majors contacting applicants? Have any of you been phone interviewed? I would hope so at the least since a lot of these jobs haven’t been announced yet. Mention the school that has phone interviewed you as well.
Are you trying to pitch that Pat turned down Texas. That would be the only dumber move than actually offering him.
