Will Flo hire separate distances coaches for men and women? If so, does that put Herbster back in play for the guys side?

Would be dumb to hire 2 people for distance in texas. Could easily get a volunteer. Why 2 for a job that 1 can do?
Proof is what the post before is saying: Upand coming no actual sprint coaches will work for him. You are going to pay 150k for a sprint coach with potential. You might have to as no sprint coach with a right mind wants to have edrick taking credit for their work
These programs that hire multiple distance coaches are a joke! It’s by far the easiest position to coach! You dont really do much... “Go on a 50 min run”. Please... the field event coaches actually coach athletes daily technically. Sprint / hurdle coaches do a small amount of technical work - but really you are either fast or not. Multiple distance coaches is ridiculous! Ha

Yes and yes. Verifiable source.

Thought so. That’s what Flo did at KU. It will free up Herbster to build a powerhouse men’s program! Can’t wait!
Ben Thomas and Vanhoy already turned down the Texas job.
Yes there plenty of distance coaches who want the Texas job but Flo is looking for the “sexy” hire.
My observations:
- Texas is a sprint and jumps school. Don’t expect a lot of scholarship money going into the distances regardless who the distance coach is.
- flo is a difficult guy to work for. Now with the pressure of being at Texas, expect that Work environment to get worse, not better.
Van Alstyne to Texas
Wow, you truly are the definition of a troll. I've seen firsthand distance and sprint/hurdle coaches who coach up their athletes daily and field event coaches who simply say "take 20 throws" or "Do 6 full approaches" and call it a day. Of course, sprint and distance coaches can be lazy too. A good coach, regardless of event area, is deeply involved in the coaching process. Whether a program needs two distance coaches is a different issue. Keep in mind though, distance runners (and coaches) are in season from August through May/June. And by "in season" I mean competitive season. No other event area is competing for that much or that long during the year. That fact alone could merit the need for two distance coaches.
The magic of distance coaches understanding Floreal, no Vanhoy at Texas,, no Ben Thomas, clearly Herbster is not taking it or was not offered. The pot is running low at this point. I watched the video again and he wants someone who can coach in hot weather. It is weird when you look at the list of coaches who are good and can coach at a place like Texas or who have coached at Texas.
Alphabetical
A. Braman FSU not leaving FSU
B. Bucknam at Arkansas , not leaving Arkansas
C. Devries, not proven for the group at Texas and prefers UK
D. Hayes at Wake Forest , not leaving wake forest and that would be his 4th stop at UT
E. Herbster, see above
F. Magness Houston, not proven, and would not fit personality
G. McCraven not leaving A&M asnd would not work with Floreal
H. Smith Oklahoma state , not taking it
I. Thomas , turned it down
J. UTEP coach, not leaving
F. Vanhoy , turned it down

No, ignorant is needing 5 other coaches for the same event groups
Great points. What about some of the other coaches that coach in the south, or have experience coaching in the south? Joe Lynn is a great recruiter and could do well. Other names that come to mind are Todd Morgan, Pete Watson, Jeff Pigg, Robert and Rita Gary, Chris Seaton
Let’s face it, if Herbster wants the job, it’s his. Should have been offered to him in the beginning since the best staff should be kept for continuity.
Ha. You Fellas really Don’t get it. You see you are not coaches. You manage mileage. Thats it. Managers. We coach athletes and change their technique - Power levels. Change their physique structure. There is no comparison. I have 30 years experience coaching. You have? You need 1 coach to Manage mileage tops!!! It’s a joke. You Do Not Coach! Just embrace reality little geeky skinny fellers.
Gosh. My mom wants me to live in Austin. It's a terrible lifestyle for parents but..... how big is the paycheck and how many scholarships do I get?
All very nice editions to the list.
Todd Morgan as of late has not worked with men in a long time.
Pete Watson has a good thing at UVA a distance school, strong academics but team has not been as good. Stay at UVA.
Joe Lynn seems to be solid but who has he coached and recruited who is good? Joe needs a couple more years in my estitamate . Uncc did beat UK in XC
Jeff Pigg- know nothing about him. Last person at ncaa’s?
Chris Seaton not leaving comfort of Nc state as long as Rollie is in play. Nc state has hit hard times and not hard times at a sprint school, hard times at a distance school, much like UVA.
Rita and Gary capable of doing great things but working for Edrick after being head coach? Also same reason Vanhoy and girlfriend could not be at Texas. Couples can not work together against university code.
But hey on that list Joe Lyn takes the lead

I am a throws coach, so like many other technical event coaches I spend around 5 hours per day at practice. It’s not ideal being that I am at a place with no operations person or recruiting coordinator. Our distance coach does a great job, but averages probably 1.5 hours a week at practice. To me the hard part of being a distance coach would recruiting. A good recruiting year a throws coach is signing 4-5 athletes. A distance coach trying to field 2 competitive XC teams probably (should) recruit double the amount of people most other event coaches do.
Great assessment. Let’s face it, Edrick is getting pretty deep on his list now and no one wants the job. Unless your a distance coach who has been fired or on the hot seat, you’d be dumb to take this job. He will always be second guessing you since you weren’t his first choice and will try to butter up his first choice coaches this next year to try to win them over and be your replacement.
At this point he may be coaching the distance squad himself!
Everyone on here trying to guess what Flo is thinking in terms of distance coach? He is thinking nothing. Herbster will stay on and continue to do a decent job. There done.
Get on with other distance positions now.
UVA women?
UNC men /women?
Syracuse Head?
Samford?
