I am not totally confident that CRISPR-Cas9 or derivatives will be used in 30 years to edit germlines (i.e. what needs to be done to cure genetic diseases). It seems likely that we will discover something easier/cheaper/more precise/more powerful just as we have left ZFNs/TALENs/etc behind.
However, CRISPR is the first tech that has people everywhere truly confident that we can alter Human DNA to cure diseases. It could prove to be the watershed tech that brings us into an era of designing our own genomes, even if it is left behind down the line for better tech.
