Saucony sees the writing on the wall. Amazon is destroying retail and the little guy in business. That means companies the size of Saucony will not survive if they can't change the shopping habits of current consumers.
Nike likes this because this will destroy many of their competitors. Last one standing. This is why they are pulling out of retail.
Wake up folks. Amazon will destroy small business and small businesses.
Saucony is owned by Wolverine International which had nearly $2.5B in revenue in 2016. I wouldn't consider them "small" or the "little guy." Cool narrative though.
Each brand has to stand on its own inside the WWW structure, one does not fund the other.
Saucony is around $200 million in running shoes sales, throw our Nike and Adidas as their fashion volume trumps all, Saucony at speciality running is one of the players. Sales yes have been on decline but that is do to other players eating up speciality dollars, Hoka.
Amazon may hurt small retailers but it does not cause people to buy less running shoes, they are just buying them online vs brick and mortar.
