Barb - for HS kids looking at college scholarships for running or swimming, you're competing with them. Are you aware of college tri programs which provide 'in the ballpark' scholarships? It'd be great for you to list them.
Thanks for the question. Triathlon is an Emerging NCAA sport for women. USAT has 10 years to get 40 schools to commit to making it a varsity sport. We are over halfway! Those NCAA programs can be found at:
https://www.teamusa.org/usa-triathlon/about/multisport/ncaa-triathlon/varsity-programs. It's exciting that, as a female, if you've grown up as a triathlete, you now have the option to have your college education paid for as a triathlete.
For HS male triathletes, this year the landscape got some sun on it with the formation of Project Podium, a men’s elite development program to be based at Arizona State University beginning in August 2018. The program is designed to develop top young male triathletes in the United States and achieve medal performances in major international competition and, ultimately, in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The press release is here:

USAT has helped keep the hand of these athletes in the sport by providing summer triathlon training squad opportunities and shorter weekend retention camps at the OTC.
