What is Day's 5000m PB?
13:49.

There is absolutely no way he would have beaten Knight. They’re not on the same level. Hunter’s 5k PR is like 30 seconds slower than Knight’s, and that suggests further that he’d lose to Knight over 10k. Plus he was just 9th at worlds. It could be a different story over 1500m, but I bet Knight could also hit 3:36.
Drew is a Bob Kennedy talent. He is better than Grant Fisher so I would have put him at 4th. Doubt he would have beaten Knight. Next year though Hunter is the guy to beat.

Where would Drew have finished if he ran at NCAAs? Would he have beaten Knight?
It would be interesting to see how Drew Hunter would answer this question.

Best thing to happen to Grant Fisher was Drew Hunter going pro. Now he gets to generate doubt and maybe win himself an NCAA XC title. Has he sent Adidas a thank you card?
You do realize Fisher already has an NCAA title, right?
I guess my memory is going because I can't recall him winning NCAA XC title in past three years.

I'm not saying that Hunter isn't worthy of comparison, I'm just saying that he shouldn't be considered head and shoulders above the college guys just because he went pro early. From your list of accomplishments all three of these guys seem very similar, with Drew being the better miler and knight being the better distance guy. Which is why I don't understand the idea that he'd be up there for 10k xc, because Drew is obviously a miler. I'd like to see some time trial like efforts from Fisher to really compare, but he almost always brings it for championships. Also Fisher and Hunter are basically the same age.
Hunter hasn't done anything to be in this discussion.

He's a pro though, so he'll never run NCAAs sadly.

What is Day's 1500m PB? 3:55.
Who do you think is going to run a faster 10k?
A guy that can only run a 3:55 1500m, but can run a 13:49 5k or a guy that runs a blazing 3:36 in the 1500m, but can only manage a 13:49 5k?
Knight is trash. Of course Drew Hunter would of beaten all of them... Knight is a pretty fragile runner. Fair weather fan.

That 13:49 was a slow, tactical race. Hunter could have run faster than that, no question. He definitely did not “only manage a 13:48 5k”.

No, it would not.

The guy who runs the blazing 3:36 and has not yet bothered to run a fast 5k.

Here’s why people were salivating during Fisher’s junior and senior years:
2X Footlocker National Champion (destroying Hunter and a loaded field in 2014)
2X Indoor Mile Champion (really going for sub-4:00 solo and tripped on the rail, jogging it in to a 4:03)
2X Dream Mile Champion (beating Hunter)
NB Nationals 2 Mile Champ as junior
NB Nationals 2 Mile runner-up as senior (congrats Hunter)
Hard to find anyone with that type of hardware. Maybe Ches. Fisher gave all us fans what we wanted 95% of the time. And he didn’t depend on paced races to do it.
7 out of 8 is 87.5%, not 95%
Wow, some people are so dense. The “95%” comment was obviously not relegated to national championship races. This was fairly clear by the reference to the Michigan state meet performance later in the post.
Knight made the world championship 5000m a few months ago. Hunter came 11th in the USA worlds team selection 1500m a few months ago.
You're comparing apples and penises.

I'm not convinced Knight would have cleaned Hunter's clock. You have to realize that Hunter runs a good 1500m/5000m off of his massive strength endurance (also known as 10k ability).
Hunter would have now had 2 years to train for a 10k XC, and as a sub 13:30 runner (potentially in 13:15 shape at his best) there is not really an option for him to be worth worse than 28:00.
XC is dynamic and every race is it's own race, but Drew Hunter could no doubt run with Fisher and Knight. Would he have beaten them? I'll refrain, because that's why we race in the first place.
Hunter is still a rookie running amongst men. Knight is an internationalist as he has run on the biggest stages as well a few other foreign athletes in the NCAA.
It would have done Drew well to have run as a collegiate athlete gaining experiences to help him down the road.

I don't know, I would have to compare these times with Mo's

Rant over
Agreed. He's a great and insanely talented guy, but undeservedly well-known (although I think he's been good for the sport). He's a bit of a counterpoint to Evan Jager, who was--to a certain extent--ridiculed when he went pro after a very solid freshman year of college.
Where would Jakob Ingebrigtsen have placed at NCAA cross? Top 10?
Hunter's coach said he was in 13:30 5000m shape in high school. Not only did he not run anywhere near that fast for 5k in high school, he hasn't even done it in college. He barely even improved in the 2-mile from junior year to senior year - that was a huge disappointment.
