Yes, I know that Runners World has always sucked and been aimed at the hobby jogger crowd. However, they used to at least include *some* stuff about competitive running, with occasional profiles of elites, reports on big races, etc. Even if it was yet another Kara Goucher fluff piece ... at least she is (or was) a legitimately elite athlete.
However, I just flipped through the latest (Dec. 2017) issue, and there is not one single word about professional or elite running. The ENTIRE issue is hobby jogger-focused crap. The closest thing there is is a picture of Bart Yasso back when he was young, and possibly considered sub-elite. When Rodale stopped publishing Running Times, and moved all its subscribers over to Runners World, they promised that they would make up for it by including more content in Runners World about higher-level running. What a joke! They've gone completely in the opposite direction.
Can anyone imagine a magazine devoted to any other sport being like this? There's no better example of the disconnect between participatory running and competitive running.
