I remember watching her at an all-comers meet age 11-12 when she was running with her little brother, focused and strong. Always had talent, but most of all just the grit to take setbacks and get back in the saddle through a number of injuries. Mile, steeple, cross....she is always a factor down the home straight. First American today and well-deserved.
Technically she is British, but yeah, she grew up in the US. Props to her to run so well as a true freshman and almost take down the 26 year old Kenyan. What is there a 7 or 8 year age difference?
