Oh yeah I think Jon told me he picked Portland to get 3rd at NCAAs in the prediction contest.
You can criticize someone for doing something and still think they are really good at their job.

Then why do you delete all posts that are critical of you?
Good back story, it seemed that nobody was taking it too seriously in the interview with Connor.
Have less races and spread them out more (3-weeks between races) and you don't have to rest anyone. Have a single invite, Conference, Regionals, and Nationals. Each race would be exciting instead of people not pushing it, sitting out people or just doing tempo runs.

Matt Welch, Minnesota graduate transfer, ran his first race for the Pilots to finishing 4th for Portland. While Gault May hate this idea, I love it. Do what you gotta do the put our your best effort at NCAAs. In XC, nothing else matters. Look at how many individuals and teams underperformed today (and every year). This doesn’t happen because they’re unfit—-it’s because the kids are tired, injured, or overcooked.
I wonder if Gault hates it. He didn't really blow off the meet quite like we thouhgt.
Now that we got a chance to talk to Conner, I don't have as much of a problem with it as i initially did. He said he knew he couldn't beat BYU, but he still ran his top guys and made sure he ran enough guys to get 2nd. The top guys just got smoked - they weren't taking it easy. And he held out a few other guys who were undertrained.
It's sort of the equivalent of pulling a cornerback with a sprained ankle in a game that if you won against a superior opponent would give you home field. In the playoffs, you don't pull him but maybe in the regular season you do.

Not basketball.
Fit the schedule to the demands of the sport. Move Conference to the second Saturday in October. Give major conference champs auto bids.
Track through the repercussions of this change and see if you think it would be a net positive.
I think it would.
I think you all would have CRUSHED Rob Conner if they did not run as well as they did. Glad you all are pals now but tip of the hat to Coach Conner for even giving Letsrun an interview.
In 20 years no one remembers the NCAA. Runner up. The do remember the first conf champ.
It's only a goo idea if the payoff is winning at nats. Nothing else.

Spoken like someone who has never been close to a top 10 team.

No one cares about conference, period. It clearly wasn’t indicative of who the better team was today. And in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. Do you think Florida cares that they placed 4th at SECs last year in track if they ended up winning the whole thing?

They are right. Without looking who was runner up 10 or even 5 years ago let alone top 10. I doubt anyone one this board knows.
I'm just glad the BYU fanboys have quieted down.

Just another version of "One & Done!" .... not good for the sport!

No one on the Bluff is gonna give a rip about WCC's when 2nd at nationals hardware is on the plane back home. Conner has been vindicated. There's gonna be Cristal at communion for a week.
Jon Gault, rojo, Ed Eyestone and BYU, time to kiss the ring and kneel.
Stacks on stacks and swag flowing like the mighty Columbia. Where da party at in City of Roses?

I'm a Big East alumn. It's not that we didn't care about the Big East Championship - I think we did care a bit - but every year we most def trained hard right through that race. I think everyone ran it (from our school and other programs) without ever going deep into the well. Indeed, the race seemed tactical each year probably because everyone else was training hard thru it, and it seems, looking back, that no one had the stomach (desire or energy) to push that race hard when bigger events were just around the corner. I can tell you - I can barely remember who won our conf champs as those memories have grown quite bleary. I believe conference champs might be is important for some (Heps comes to mind) - but certainly not for everyone.
Really?? This is mind blowing. Where I ran, we took BE incredibly serious and i can name every champ in XC and many of the track events from my time in the conference which was 15+ years ago.
The battles that took place in those days between the PC, Nova, ND, Gtown and some others were legendary.
That said, i have no issues with what RC pulled off and his explanation to Gault in the video interview made complete sense.

So if you're convinced you're going to get 2nd and you rest someone and still get 2nd what's the difference might be the argument?
Well, according to your brother ‘its bad for the sport.’ So, there’s that.

If you can tell RC how to put three weeks between conference, regionals and nationals he’ll likely be on board.
Conference Champs should be given auto spots to nationals. Problem solved??
Rob Conner is really smart.
Congrats to Portland, they ran well.
I have heard all the stories about how hard missions are with all the walking or bike riding, but I honestly think the BYU situation is as close to age cheating as you can get.
