Believe J. Bunston (Ark) and K Sullivan (UM) both had 2nd place finishes back in the day.
Bairu came to Canada at age 3. He's as Canadian as Fisher is US, He counts...otherwise no Cdn born have won. Until Sat, when Knight will crush it

I'm sorry that you couldn't understand what I wrote. Hopefully this is a good learning experience for you.
Yes, I've learned that you will defend your mistake in spite of all evidence. Trump much?

Only Upper Canada , established in 1791 , is the true map of Canada. The Loyalist needed to establish a territory to execute American cowards fleeing the civil war. Till this day , in Southern Ontario, we view American's visiting Ontario as cowards. Kelly Clarkson is also not Canadian , and sings off key, and wears plus size clothing.
Never heard of upper Canada before:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_CanadaSo do you guys want to join the UK? Do you get all excited when the Canadian head of state -the Queen- comes to town?
Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Upper Canada's got a ring too it.
What do you think of Brexit?
So much for wejo being the smart one.

I think the brothers Johnson are making decent coin from this site. That's smart in my book.

"Canadian born"?
Nobody cares about that nonsense here.
Simon Bairu is Canadian. He won. Twice.
Others -Arjun Gelling was 2nd to Gerry Lindgren in 1967. Nobody believes it important to check Gelling's birth certificate.
Arjan was Canadian, lived in Thunder Bay, except that he was born in Holland. He ran for UND and still holds a few school records from way back in the 1960s, but i think he "only" won Div II xc. Sadly he passed away this year, age 70, from prostate cancer.
In 2016, while enduring his battle with cancer, Gelling wrote: “When things start getting really difficult in the not-too-distance future, I know I will be able to receive a lot of strength to continue the battle knowing that you are all in my corner. In the meantime, we carry on – after all, distance runners are known for their endurance – and when things do become more difficult, we'll just shorten our stride a bit, tuck the chin a bit tighter into the chest, and face those headwinds with more determination and possibly a small dose of Dutch stubbornness throw in for good measure. Love you lots, Arjan.”
I love how the term "born" is only contested when Americans can't claim white male runners as their own.
IF SIMON BAIRU IS NOT "CANADIAN BORN", FRANK SHORTER IS NOT "AMERICAN BORN"
Arjan had chops into his later years. At age 65 he ran a 38:25 10k, and 84min half.
He finished second to Lindgren in Div I XC.

Frank was born to American parents, a father who was a Army officer/doctor, on a U.S. Army base (and hence U. S. Territory) in Munich. Born there he got an automatic US passport.
He didn't need to stow away on a banana boat and take a number at the immigration office to make application to be recognized a citizen.

That's all great but he wasn't born in America. He was born in Germany. A US military base in a foreign country is most certainly NOT a US territory.
If you want to extend the definition of "American born" to having grown up in the USA and benefited from its system (which the founders of this site do) then I 100% agree he was American born however that means Simon Bairu was Canadian born as well as his situation is no different as he was born in a foreign country but grew up in the Canadian system.
Bairu was born in Saudi Arabia and that's practically Canadian territory with all the arms dealing going on between Trudeau and the Sheiks.
Mike Rossi won in '81 I believe.

Would your book happen to be "The Moron's Bible" by any chance?
Someone who was born in the USA had no say in the matter. It's just luck. Someone who moved there and became a citizen? It was by choice. Even if the place they left was a hellhole, it was still a familiar hellhole. The athlete not born in the USA or Canada has a tougher time to adjust to culture, language, expectations etc.
Who cares. Meaningless topic.
Maybe Ben Johnson could help us answer this question.
