I use gmaps to plan routes. Pretty similar.
All of the mapping websites are pretty ok for day-to-day stuff, but you shouldn't expect any real precision with them.
If you want good distances, build a track around your house, or measure your block with a survey wheel, or GPS with real-time kinematics.
I used the MapMyRun app this summer. My best guess is that it would overestimate the distance run by about 75 meters every mile while on a point-to-point course. It was somewhat less reliable when doing short loop courses. It was way off the few times I tried it on a track (I was curious about the accuracy as well).
