I've seen the Kinks play it better. (and saw Ray play it better too)
My personal fav is J. Geils Band live @ Holy Cross, '72.
The approx. 25 minutes Queen played at Live Aid. Epic.
Richie Havens. Don't dismiss it until you go. I'm not sure how/why, but it's pretty amazing... And I don't care for his recorded stuff, at all.
Answer has to be Yola Polastri's unforgettable cover of Springsteen's "Protection"
My Morning Jacket is a fantastic live rock band
From an analogy standpoint this thread is not a greatest NCAA running performances thread. It's a greatest running performance thread.
The guys you have posted are all great singers doing great performances, of that their is no question. I like several of those songs, and this style of music FAR more than what I posted...but it's objectively all still tiers below what's being done by Caruso. Even more hilariously so when you realize this is mechanically recorded 110 years ago and only captures a fraction of the voice.
Really enjoyed that Queen recording. Mercury really was quite a singer, the resonance in his upper notes is better on stage than in any of the recordings I've heard, and you can really tell just how well placed the voice was.
