How would you suggest USF compete against the likes of Stanford or other top West + Mtn Region programs? USF as an institution will never attract the walk-on talent that schools like Berkeley, Portland, NAU, even UCSB will get.
For schools like USF or UTEP, coaches who want to keep their jobs and stay relevant to AD's, have to shop around globe (or flat earth).
It really about recruiting the talent to allow a team to compete against the big college programs.
The big schools get the best of the US talent and the USF's and New Mexico's have scrap to get foreign talent to be competitive. Its an old story thats been in collegiate athletics for years.
Once you have the talent you still have to coach them. Blended teams with US and foreign talent are a part of the formula as well.
Then you get an Adams State team that gets the 3rd tier athletes and develops them to their best potential being competitive with many Div. 1 schools.
