It's an opinion article. The author is entitled to her opinion. The author is not Shalane Flanagan, and the politics are not necessarily in line with Shalane Flanagan's. My opinion is that Trump's presidency is a tragedy that has, thankfully, at least cast a brighter-than-otherwise light on issues of women and minorities. I'm fine with this writer suggesting that Shalane is more of a feminist than Ivanka Trump is. It's a fair assessment, and that's not just a matter of opinion.
Of course it's an opinion article, but the opinion the author is trying to support is that the "Shalane effect" exists and that she has improved the other women runners in BTC by her example and support.
That has nothing to do with what someone's opinions might be about Trump, Ivanka, or politics. What I don't like and what I think most people are complaining about is how so many people like the author now have Trump and politics constantly in their mind and try to connect everything under the sun to Trump and politics. It's just stupid and annoying, whether it's pro-Trump or anti-Trump.
