Do you really think your world view and inherent bias sets the standard for what others care about?
Running is a 'relatively simple' sport, in terms of categorization, when compared to bike racing. There are several categories of bike racing in cycle sport, including road bicycle racing, time trialling, cyclo-cross, mountain bike racing, track cycling, BMX, and cycle speedway. Under the umbrella of 'ultrarunning' are many subcategories, in which the totality of interested parties (participants, viewers, sponsors) seems to be faster-growing, relative to the typical 'athletics' (olympic) distance races.
