When Daniels prescribes a threshold cruise interval workout, such as 3 x 1mile, and notes that these 3 intervals should take ~ 20 minutes, should the 1 mile distance be adjusted (based on VDOT) to maintain the total of about 20 minutes?
For example, should the workout be adjusted to 3 x 1200m for a VDOT of 36 and a total of about 20 minutes, or should the 1 mile distance be maintained for a total of about 27 minutes?
Page 56, 3rd edition: "Consider any 5 to 6 min T to be the same as 1 mile T; 10 to 15 min T is the same as 2 miles T; and 16 to 20
min T is the same as a 3-mile run at T pace."
So instead of the 3 x 1 mile I would do 3 x 6 minutes. If you are doing these on a track, I would indeed convert the distance.
If you would stick to 3 x 1 mile at T pace, this same workout would be a lot harder for slower runners than for faster runners (because of more time spent at T pace), which would go against his entire training philosophy.
One final remark. For the T cruise intervals he prescribes e.g. "1 minute rest", while he prescribes for example "3 minutes jogging" for Intervals. Smoove has explained in another topic that this should be understood as standing rest, no walking or jogging.
