So xc season (Junior Year) just ended and I really didn’t hit my potential, in my opinion. This summer I averaged about 38 mpw and 33 in season, with two weeks of taper averaging 26 mpw. My PR was 17:45 for 5k and last track season I ran 4:58 for the 1600m, 2:14 for 800m, and 59 for 400m. Basically what I want to know is, how much do you think going from about 40 mpw to 60 or 70 mpw will help, if the extra mileage is in doubles at an easy pace? I have from Nov 26 - Feb 24 to train before track. My plan is to do what my coach has me run at practice ( no indoors) which means a few LT and Long Runs, with every other week hills, and the the rest comfort zone runs (easy - medium) and then start adding in doubles in the morning, just for the aerobic development, starting around 2 mi every day and over the 13 weeks, building up to 6 EASY miles in the morning every week day, plus an easy 3 Saturday night since I don’t run on sundays for the day off.
Basically, will that plan help me become a stronger 3200 Runner? (Never raced in track, but 2 mi split in 5k at 10:59) or will I just get better at the 800 and 1600 and not improve as much in the 3200?
What will the increase in mileage really do?
Thanks!
