Kipsang said he started having stomach problems in Berlin and that's why he dropped out at 30k. He said extending his training to New York was not a problem and he is very fit.
A 30k long run would usually be nice preparation but I'm not convinced he can extend his training an extra month and a half. Not impossible but we'll see Sunday. Details and more from today's press stuff here:

What the hell is wrong with you guys? You are dealing with marathon royalty here. Hands down. Top 3 greatest marathon runner of all time, WR holder, etc. And in the article you guys say talk is cheap, as if he is some kind of newbie fresh off of a fluke marathon win.
Kipsang is one of the most consistent marathoners in the world, and he will always be in great shape because his trains smart, and his training is high quality.
This is Wilson Focking Kipsang if you don't know it.
My only problem with him is he has increased his carb intake while racing, because he was told that it will allow him to maintain his endurance a lot better, thus having more energy to surge in the later part of the race. It screwed him up during Berlin, and, hopefully, he has returned to his former way of taking in carbs.
