Somebody needs to shut up that race director.
Any expectation that you're getting to the line and taking right off is a poor expectation. I'd guess all of the elites would be briefed that this would be the case.
It's time for a no BS marathon movement. It's out of control at this point.
Anyone hoping for a course record is probably out of luck. Keitany split 30:04 at 5 miles. Course record pace is 27:10. So she's already given up 2:54 to the record.

Yeah. It was a big discussion at lunch the other day. We're mobilizing.

I like John Anderson and Tim Hutchings better than the Eurosport guys, but Eurosport is showing more of the race.
Fyi, the men's pack is already looking thinned out. Meb is in it, but I think he's looking to maximize screen time in his last 'thon rather than actually go for the win.
Did it just say Jason Simpson was in the lead pack?
winning time will be in 2:23-2:24 range.......opens things up for many more runners go be in the mix
Eurosport is showing more, quality content. I don't need to hear about how athletic runners need to be to get a drink.
The men are a bit more spread out than the women, maybe that means they're going a bit faster...

Who is this Butter guy?
Dutch marathoner. 2:09:58 PB.
Biwott's balls are straight up popping out of his shorts.
Crazy stat.
No man has won New York in back to back years since John Kagwe did it in 1997 and 1998.
(Geoffrey Mutai won back to back races in 2011 and 2013 as NY was cancelled in 2012).
If people tune in to watch the race, people will get bored watching the race and change the channel. Uh.......wait, what??

Screw this. I'm going back to bed.
Women
Mile 1: 6:43
Mile 2: 5:58 (12:41) Dossena of Italy running off the front a little bit but there’s a huge pack right behind her.
Mile 3: 5:55 (18:36)
5k: 19:09
Mile 4: 5:48 (24:24) 23 women within 4 seconds of the feed.
Mile 5: 5:39 (30:03) Deba starting to push now and opening a small gap at the front. She has about 20 meters on field. Now 30 meters.
Mile 6: 5:37 (35:40) Deba has been reeled in.
10k: 36:52 (17:43)
Mile 7: 5:38 (41:18) 18 women in lead pack.
Men
Mile 1: 5:39
Mile 2: Ghebreslassie already pushing and stringing out the men’s field.
Prediction, the women go through half in 1:15, then Mary runs a second half
Could Meb beat Aaron Judge in a 400?
Who are these dudes with the numbered bibs running along the side?

Yes, Mary will run the second half of the marathon, like tens of thousands of other runners today.
We've just been told Abdi fell at the first drinks station -- that's why he's off the back already even though they only hit 5k at 16:12. He's trying to reel them in. Ward also getting gapped slightly from big lead pack.
