Thank you good sir!
I always forget Shalane's mother held the world record, set in 1971, a time of 2:49.71. Seems quite slow
Also Cheryl Bridges / Treworgy was the first woman in the United States to recieve and athletic scholarship to a public university — Indiana State — according to Wikipedia.
The women are jogging the first mile
So the running joke at LRC is that I'm always early to events and Weldon always arrives as close as he can to the start of the race.
At 9:20, when the women were supposed to start, Weldon wasn't here at the media center. I was sure he was going to miss it.
At 9:21, Weldon still wasn't here.
At 9:22, the gun goes off and a split-second later, I hear Weldon's voice behind me. I don't know why there was a two-minute delay -- major marathons almost always start exactly on time -- but there was, and that allowed Weldon to make it exactly on time.
Thank you for posting this!
You're an idiot if you blast the first uphill mile with a 150 foot climb on the Verranzo Narrows Bridge.

Wasn't done by me or Weldon. It needs to be up.

Thanks for replying.
6:50 1st mile for the women!
Is Kara Goucher officially or unofficially retired?
MAGA
Interesting, Mary is still waiting to make her move, maybe she wants to make the race interesting before she destroys everyone
Don't underestimate Jessica Augusto...
The women went through the first mile in 6:51. I don't think there's going to be a course record today.

Can someone please tell me why the women only start 28 minutes before the men? It makes NO sense. The end up finishing 15 minutes apart which is absurd.
MY #1 pet peeve. I'll say it and say it again. The races need to FINISH at least 45 minute apart. I'd do it so when the first race finished the 2nd one was at halfway.
1) If you are going to do only 30 minutes, the men need to go first.
2) Personally, I think when the broadcast comes on the women should be at like mile 10. Nohting happens in the first hour of a marathon anyway.
3)_ CAN A RACE EXECUTIVE PLEASE TELL ME WHO THINKS ITS A GOOD IDEA to do it as you do it now. The way they do it now, it's terrible tv. We wait 2 hours for excitement and then it comes all at once in both races and we can't appreciate it.
Come on people
