there goes his chance at the 400m WR being below 43 seconds, in my opinion
i know it was presented as a tag game and easy, but this is a really stupid decision for arguably the best 200m-400m runner in the world.
he might recover, and i hope does, but he was so strong and fit and now he's taking many steps backwards and not able to build on that strength he and his coach built. this is not good news for the sprint world
he might not be the same again, especially if he has a hard time dealing with frustrating setbacks.
bummer
This is very sad. But we do not yet know for sure that's it's a complete rupture, nor do we know how bad the meniscus damage is. He will probably get the best care anyone's ever had for this, and medicine advances all the time. Let's hope for the best.

So still faster than Jim Ryun by +3s
nope
the '67 Ryun had 44-flat speed, so that is 0.5s slower on career comeback ultimate PB for wayde
More like 47.9s
Actually, he might comeback as a shorter distance sprinter.
that's what they do over there wrote:

⤴Yes, next year's Halloween costume.

An extreme exaggeration! If Jim Ryun had 44.00 sea level (zero to one-thousand feet elevation) 400m speed, Ryun would not have worn himself out trying to battle Kip Keino in the 1500m 1968 Olympics..

Do you know who operated on Allen?
Top guy at Steadman and an educated guess at who was chief in the OR for this operation

...Because he shouldn't have any fun in his life and do stuff other than run because he might *gasp* get hurt?!?!?!? :/ Newsflash, you can tear your ACL just getting out of bed (ask Broadway actor Andy Karl about this).
You're a billion times more likely to tear your ACL playing rugby than getting out of bed.
All these ACL tears for athletes needing surgery also makes me wonder how did the cave people evolve such weak ACL's. They were out there hunting mammoths and wrestling saber tooth cats practically every day. Those prone to ACL tears would be weeded out of the gene pool very quickly.
I think this is yet another sign of the weakened genome due to civilization that I'm always on about. People are soft, pink and fat like domesticated pigs, unfit to survive in nature, mostly.
Maybe cavemen were into rehab for their torn ACLs (an advance civilization of space travelers could have stopped by and shown cavemen how to rehab ?). I've seen drawings in caves that depicts strange looking beings i.e., aliens showing cavemen the exercises for rehab ?).

A number of men, due to division of labor I am sure stayed near women and children to protect the tribe while elite hunters ran down the bovine mammal/creaturesof that time. The men protecting the women and children had more breading opportunities than the elite hunters. We have more men who can win a fight in a phone booth remaining than men who can chase down bovine remaining .
I feel bad for Van Niekerk, but this news is not very surprising. It's not his fault. But to say that Van Niekerk isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer is a huge understatement. Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88 can relate to this.

Because they did it on natural ground. That is why. There were not a lot of ACL tears to athletes before the 80s in football or soccer. They played the sport on grass, and grass does not trap the feet like artificial turf does.
It's the same reason why animals don't have issues on grass while running and cutting.
No way in hell would I play on turf as an athlete. I don't care how much would be given to me
So in the photos from the match where he was supposedly injured, he's already wearing some kind of wrap or brace on his right knee. Very strange! I wonder if the knee was giving him trouble even before?

You guys need to read a book titled Manthropology. The author asks how ancient/early humans survived in Africa. His conclusion was that we must have been able to punch harder than elite boxers and modern man is slowly evolving into a couch potato. He also reckons that foot prints of an ancient Australian Aboriginal show him capable of running like 8.9s for 100m in bare feet.

Bye bye sub-43 dream
Sadly yes.
Struggling to edge Makwala this season showed he wasn't in that kind of shape anyway. Sub-43 was never going to happen any time soon.
Wayde seems like a decent guy but I would like to see Makwala come back and be the first guy to run sub-43, doing it on pure hate (for the IAAF).

He lost me when he whinged on live TV about Makwala and MJ disrespecting him. Fantastic athlete, nevertheless. At least they've dialled down that nonsense about him being the next Usain Bolt.
