According to a reliable source Donson will be focusing on the 800 once again this year as it's his senior year and he is chasing the national record. As thus he will run this at conference rather than the mile.
The 2018 MIAC Indoor Conference 800 results will look as follows:
1. Cook-Gallardo, Carleton
2. Ebner, Macalaster
3. Madigan, Gustavus Adolphus
Love the Madigan pick as he should make a huge jump this season. Great range and great talent.
Also, what is the national record in the 800? Gotta be sub 1:48 indoors...
I feel underwhelmed by opening weekend.
Agreed. That said, it is early.
Any early performances that you all think should be noted? My first one is Joey Cook-Gallardo's 800m performance. Pretty solid considering it is his first indoor 800m in college, and only his 3rd open 800m since coming in.
Second, Parker Rosenau's mile put him back in place where he should be following his steeples last spring, hopefully now having put his poor xc season behind him. It is a solid PR for this early on. Hopefully this is just his progression, though, and not him trying to run too fast too early.
I was a bit disappointed with St. Olaf's opener, as in the past they have flashed fast times right away. This said, I think it is a good call to reign them in a bit this go-around. It seems this group of runners all really feed off of each other in terms of working hard and running harder on a consistent basis, and this leads to their injury or poor performances later in the season. So perhaps a slower start will really benefit these guys so that they are at their best come late indoor and into the spring.
At Mac's meet Klamm and Hattie were set for one hell of a race in the 600m before Klamm scratched, but Wahlstedt (Hatton's teammate) ended up outkicking him after they went through 400 in about 53 and somewhat died. Also Mueller's 8:38 3k is extremely impressive. At this point he has to be the favorite.
Mueller's the favorite unless Donson runs the 3k, which is a definite possibility. He entered it at UST last weekend but scratched.
I agree Muellers performance was great but lets not forget about the other guys in the race. Ketola ran a great race and just couldnt hold on in the last 600, Wilkinson also finished not far behind those two. Dodge and Meikle both ran really smart races and broke 9 minutes early in the season. Im not sure where Henshel and Lerdal are right now? (Abroad?) If they are just gone for the J term they might be able to battle these guys in the 3k/5k come conference. Either way, the longer distance races are gonna be dominated by these guys this year.
What happened to all those GAC guys with the sweet staches? Did they all graduate?

Wintheiser ran a 8:32 his freshman year in the 3k. Is it time to make the Mueller Wintheiser connection? Not really, but it is a fun comparison. Jake Campbell only ran 8:34 his sophomore year, maybe he is the Wilkinson equivalent?
Again, no. But it is fun to compare. What I'm trying to say is that those two freshmen are phenomenal.
Has anyone heard from Gustafson, Wachter, or Henschel yet this season? Wachter and Gustafson are both coming off of great XC seasons, and Henschel we know had talent.
They will be back. Don't worry. Expect to see them at MIACs at MAC.
St. Olaf has an outstanding all-around athlete in Lisa Fisher. Has a St. Olaf T&F coach asked Ms. Fisher her thoughts on heptathlon?

She is a 100% a true athlete. Heptathlon might be a bit of a jump, but man can she do it all. 400m - probably the 10k.
Does anyone have any insight on who Elisha Kipruto (4:12 seed racing at Olaf tomorrow) is?
Iowa Central athlete doing a tune-up? Someone using a different name? A joke altogether?
Any knowledge appreciated.

Probably legit. At a different home meet (Feb. 18th) at Olaf last year the results would have been pretty solid for a guy running 4:12.xx.
Joe Coffey - St. Olaf - 4:08.46
Sean Bjork - St. Olaf - 4:10.02
Jacob Eggers - St. Olaf - 4:13.26
Ryan Bugler - St. John's - 4:15.10
Keith Ketola - St. Olaf - 4:18.10
That said, I doubt that they will run 4:12 if they are doing it solo. Anyone else seeded under 4:20? Maybe they will have a pacer from Iowa Central. They had someone pace the 3k a few years back.

This is from 2014.. so I'm not sure if this can be the same person as I'm not familiar with NJCAA rules. But they fit the bill, if this is them, the 4:12 is more than legit.
There's an Elisha Kipruto seeded 4:25 at the U of M meet this weekend as well.
Lot going on this weekend. Fast times have to happen now. No real standouts yet but that should change.
400: Klamm and the younger Bethel 200-400 guys debut at this distance this weekend (St Olaf). J. Cook-Gallardo, fastest 600m this year, as well.(MSU-Mankato) D. Supinski also. (UND)
600: All I see is B. Krogman (UW-Stout). 2nd fastest 400m so far.
800: D. Cook-Gallardo (MSU-Mankato). C. Mueller, with fastest 400m and tied for fastest 600m so far.
1000: Hatton.
Mile: The usual suspects and usually-800m-guy D. Huffman (maybe with a 4:12 to rabbit them--doubt it). Plus D. Cook-Gallardo (MSU)
3000: I guess watch for Stumbo at St Olaf.
I'm seeing MIAC teams at St Olaf (STO, GUS, BET) , UND (Concordia), UW-Stout (Saint Mary's, Augsburg) , MSU-Mankato (Carleton and Hamline), and the University of Minnesota (St Thomas).
Macalaster and Saint John's are at Saint John's tomorrow but no heat sheets yet.
Missing anybody???
