The fact that Tristram Dodge isn't on that list is a crime. The man's built like a brachiosaurus.
Y'all crazy. There's no way the answer isn't the golden child. The poster boy himself. https://flic.kr/p/V7FPDv
Thoughts on the Tomcat.
St. Thomas did their usual thing: not doing anything of much importance except their jumpers and throwers.
DCG must have bribed Allen Benjamin to take it slow yet again. How long is he going to keep this dogging races up (28 through 200)?
decent start for the 800 and 1500 runners considering this season.
Bethel's 400s are looking really good.
Carleton looks like they'll stay on top in the 5000 if they stay healthy (if dave doesn't burn the freshies out early).
which schools have owned certain event groups in the past decade? not just current leaders but I want to see who has consistently had a significant presence in an event group, or others that have come and gone in the past 5 years.
I say in the past few years: AUG in the short sprints, BET in long sprints, HAM in throws, STO/CAR in long distance
While yes, the Tommies are ALWAYS saved by jumps and throws I would argue there were a few bright spots in the meet for them.
Mueller running 49.99 (even if he was beat by the Bethel trio) is a nice start
Koslowski 1:55.17 appears to be a PR, putting him 3rd in the MIAC (barring no one else ran tonight)
Wachter had a solid performance of 3:59.77 (TFRRS PR by nearly 14 seconds?)
Sprints looked pretty average, as usual for UST.. did some not run?
My biggest question was what happened to Patrick Roos out there? Terrible second half of that 5K. Unattached or not, come on.
Also, was 1200 miles (allegedly) in the last 3 months too much for old Tremayne? I figured he'd be in better shape than 15:48, especially considering his indoor champs performance given that training.
Anyone know anything about Carleton Relays tomorrow? Is the meet still on? Heat sheets?
Woah, Tris Dodge might be good. Interested to see if/what he runs in the 10 if they have him run it. Might be worth avoiding it to give him a fair shot at qualifying in the 5 though.
small sample size, but here we go.
400m
Olsen/Klamm/Erickson: Olsen, Klamm is a given, so it's a race for third between Erickson and Mueller. Erickson will find a way in the last 100m to edge out Mueller.
800m
DCG/Hatton/Krogman: DCG wins. The battle for second place is a 4-way battle between Hatton, Krogman, Kozlowski, and Jewson. Hatton's speed wins out followed by Krogman.
1500m
DCG/Mueller/Ketola: Donson doubles. Keith just can’t keep up with the kicks by Donson and Lucas.
3000s
O’Hare/Wilkinson/Rosenau: Not too different from last year, but Silky Wilky makes things interesting.
5000m
Dodge/Mueller/Wilkinson: This is Tris' year to shine. Carleton gets the sweep and Dodge beats the tired freshmen.
10000m
Timm/Collins/Dodge: Paul Timm wins, "The Train" Collins' miles finally help him out, and Tris… sure.
1500:
DCG/Ketola/Lonergan
DCG kicks, but the Ole duo keep the pace honest and are able to hold off Wachter.
3000s:
O'Hare/Rosenau/Wilkinson
Wilkinson looks strong, but just doesn't have enough experience hurdling. This weather isn't helping him practice either.
5000m:
Dodge/Lerdall/Mueller
Mueller has never won at the 5000, and has been looking more and more venerable in recent races. Might finally be showing signs of mortality. With a slow tactical race the carls go 1-2, but Mueller doesn't seem to know how to run tactical so Lerdall is able to sneak in and break them up.
10000:
Dodge/Lerdall/Stumbo
Dodge finally has a break out season and will qualify for nationals in the 10k, even though this year is incredibly deep for that distance. Lerdall is very consistent at longer races and knows how to get the job done. Freshman from Gustavas has shown his chops in xc and will outrun a burned out Timm.
800s going to be a show. Kozlowski, Krogman, Ebner, Jewson and Hatton all could get 2nd. Lonergan, Gustafson, and J. Cook-Gallardo could al be surprise entries that mix it up.
The only sweep is Krogman vs Kozlowski at 1-0. The rest have all now won and lost to each other.
Right now Ebner and Krogman are my favorites for 2 and 3. Neither has run fast yet, but Ebner is a beast when he gets going and Krogman ALWAYS hangs back Outdoors until conference.
DCG wins obviously.
Rosenau goes 9:26.55 out in Cali last night, nice opener for steeple.
Nice time for him, at this point in the season. Though very confusing how everything he’s run to this point over the last year has been mediocre. Perhaps he’s a very niche runner and the steeple is perfect for him. Very much looking forward to conference now to see how the steeple shakes out. Outside of the 800m it could be the most exciting to watch.
*side note, congratulations to Ryan Bugler for running sub-9:00 finally. Didn’t look pretty but still cool to see. Makes me happy to see alumni like him, Coffey, Eggers, and all still going at it.
If anyone else has any performances from this past weekend to note, both current or alumni, they should go ahead and post it. With the weather being as crappy as it has been we should celebrate every performance.
Noticed Wachter ran 1500 this morning as well, 3:58.58.
1:54:56 for Carl Kozlowski
Were there any meets in Minnesota this weekend? I don't see any...
Concordia Moorhead “Snow-Nami”
I believe when I saw results the only real notable performance was Frank Gustafson running 4:02 but I could be wrong. Looked like a slow 5K
Noticed this weekend both Bethel and UST have a pretty lethal Karl/Carl duo
During that 10k at Concordia it was insulting to watch Stumbo tool around with Concordia guys. He was just chilling for 9k and honestly just dropped the field. The guy looked fit... Pretty jaw dropping stuff.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
