400: Klamm
600: Supinski
800: Hatton
1000: Cook-Gallardo
Mile: Cook-Gallardo
3000: Ketola
5000: Lerdall
4x400: Bethel
DMR: St Olaf
I say Klamm over supinski in the 600 and ketola and lerdall switch in the 3k and 5k for the win and you've got a good set of predictions. If DCG goes for the mid-distance triple (800, 1k, mile), it could make things interesting
400: Klamm
600: Supinski
800: Mueller
1000: Cook-Gallardo
Mile: Cook-Gallardo
3000: Lerdall
5000: Stumbo
4x400: Bethel
DMR: Carleton
There's no doubt in my mind that the dark moose will win the 3k.
Lets talk DMR. It seems like Carleton is the sure favorite. They won in a MIAC record last year and return everyone except Edstrom, a spot which can be filled by either of the freshmen. Meanwhile Olaf loses Coffey and St. Johns loses. . . well. . . all hope. Its hard to see a team beating the carls unless they don't stack it.
The question is what the speed is like for the freshmen for carleton, both seem like distance guys. They both have 800 prs of 1:59 so that might come back to bite whereas Olaf has some good looking speed based runners in their rankings.
Bold prediction: Nolan Ebner wins in the 800
Nolan Ebner might win the 800... but only if Donson decides to run 3k/Mile/1k. Given that the conference is weak sauce in the longer distance events it wouldn’t surprise me. But he seems a lock to win whatever he steps on the line to run.
Based on what events people ran last year
800:
Should be an interesting race. Last year had 6 seniors score and then a bunch of 2:00+. I'm sure some freshman will fill in but for Now I'd say
1. Donson
2. Evan Hatton
3. Karl Wachter
4. Nolan Ebner
5. Sam Jewson
Dark Horse: Fernando Benitez (HAM) - Coming off a great Cross country season, has potential to take the next step this winter
Mile:
Fight for second in the mile. Olaf will have depth and Henshel should be back to his former self so they will score 3+ runners.
1. Donson
2. Jack Henshel
3. Alec Kirtley
4. Austin O'Hare
5. Cameron Meikle
Dark Horse: Chris Boranian (MAC) - Another runner who made major strides over the course of the cross country season. Also finished very high in the 1500 during outdoor
3000:
Lot of opportunity in this event. Olaf will have some guys in it and O'Hare and Rosenau are top returners from steeple last year with strong finishes in Cross.
1. Keith Ketola
2. William Anderson
3. Austin O'Hare
4. Parker Rosenau
5. Tramayne Collins
Dark Horse: Alex Berhe (STO) He didn't impress (or finish) in his Cross country stint, but if he is running he could win
5000:
1. Thomas Lerdall
2. Keith Ketola
3. Matthew Burgstahler
4. Paul Timm
5. Tris Dodge
Dark Horse: Tyler Bethke (BU) - Stepped up as the top runner for Bethel this fall.
DMR:
Carleton and St Olaf should have enough turnover to stay at the top. After that idk but St Thomas is returning everyone and Bethel and St Johns will probably always do well in this event. Probably a crap shoot but oh well.
1. Carleton
2. STO
3. St Thomas
4. Bethel
5. St Johns
Freshman that will probably score somewhere - Matt Wilkinson, Lucas Mueller, Andrew Stumbo, Frank Gustafson, Ezekiel Lelinga
So Donson is going to run the mile, 800, and DMR on Friday night?
I wouldn't count out Liban Jama. He showed huge improvements over the xc season and has some fast hs times that could translate to a breakout indoor season.
whatever you say, Liban Jama. That dudes times will prove themselves, don’t talk yourself up

The 8th ranked freshman at conference? That would be a tough one to believe.
He will probably qualify for conference, but that is about it.
Saw that Liban Jama was mentioned in this thread. The kid is so talented, in High School he was right with Wilkinson. I would not count out the other Wayzata Alumni that are freshman. You got Jeremy Gilbertson from GAC who had a PR of 15:54 and 9:28. I thought he would be up there this year in XC with Stumbo his teammate. You also got Nick Kerbeshian from GAC who was the 7th freshman in the Region. He didn't have the best MIAC meet but came back strong at Regions. I was very impressed with Josh Halverson too both at MIACs and Regionals. He was the 4th freshman MIACs. Those 4 guys I believe could score at conference. It will be hard for them.
Agreed... Not a troll wrote:

For the longest time I was a big advocate on the stance that freshmen typically don't have a big impact on cross country. I was obviously proved wrong this fall, in a refreshing manner. Now we are on to track, which has historically been more kind to freshmen. In particular, 800m runners (see every single season for the past 10 years there has been a stud freshman 800m runner).
So, I fully expect to see these guys come out and compete come outdoor. Indoor might be a bit difference, but we'll see! I'm excited.
Waiting patiently for people to post predictions...
Both for indoor conference and the upcoming turkey trots...
Lol y'all trippin. I'm just pointing out that the kid showed huge improvements over the season. He looks like the kind of guy who didn't run at all this summer and then showed up. And, to throw down a 26 on the olaf course is legit. He is my dark horse. I know the carls are pissing their pants at the thought of a olaf runner competing with them, but these boards aren't the place to overcome your insecurities. Nice try guys.
