I've only been running for a little over 2 years, and I've never actually RACED a half marathon. I've finished a couple of half marathon races (before I actually started running), but I've never trained and set a goal before now. Here's what I want to know:
How do I know whether I'm running too fast or too slow with enough time to make a meaningful adjustment? It's such a long race that I suspect that running too fast or too slow might not be detectable until it's too late to adjust and save the race. I don't want to blow up at mile 11 because I went out too aggressively, nor do I want to feel like I didn't do all I could to run the fastest race possible.
Does anyone have any advice for how I should be feeling throughout a half marathon race? Below I'll share some details that might be helpful. Feel free to skip it if you don't care.
