For World XC, the mens used to do 12k and the women 8k, but now they met in the middle and both do 10k so that's a start.
I think in the next 7-8 years, it will be similar on the NCAA level. Men and women run the 8k.
I don't see them doing 8k for girls and 10k for guys just because the change which would be fueled by gender equivalent distances would've been redundant.
I don't see them doing 10k for both since girls going from 6k to 10k in one year would be such a huge jump + it would set a unique distance that's not offered on the track.
I know tons of 1500m girls who would strongly benefit from keeping it at 6k, but still want 8k/10k just because they want gender equivalency. That has to mean something. A lot of top coaches around the NCAA have expressed that there needs to be a change. I'm not sure what's going on in the NCAA as to why this hasn't been a pressing matter.
