I was rethinking the 70s running boom. What a scene that was! The question, then, is how today's races with 5-6,000 people aren't far more impressive than the 1,000 that might have turned out for the Pepsi Challenge 10000 in Iowa in 1978. We hold that boom era with such esteem, yet today's running scene is magnitudes larger, not even considering the color/mud/adventure run elements.
