At what point should I expect my doctor to consider treating me for hypothyroidism? 18 months ago, I got a blood panel that included a TSH test. I tested outside of the normal range (6.32 mIU/L), but my doctor did not even discuss this with me during my follow-up visit. Instead, he diagnosed me with insomnia and prescribed an anti-depressant. This did nothing to improve my sleep and 18 months later I am living in a perpetual state of fatigue. I can barely find the energy to make it through a 6 mile run at 8:30 pace (two years ago, I ran a 2:38 full running 80-90 mpw). I have new doctor, and I've scheduled to get another blood panel next week. If my TSH is a similar value, should I still expect to not be treated for hypothyroidism? Do I need to be at 10 mIU/L or higher (is that even possible?) before a doctor will actually take this seriously?
