I'm about to finish a month of easy training to begin my buildup for track season (peak in late april). I want to see where my fitness is at by running a half/10k/5k on the 28th, but I also don't want to run out of steam at the end of the season because I started racing too early. Would it be a bad idea to race a half marathon this early in my training cycle? If so, should I just race the 10k or 5k on the 28th? I might even just run the first half of the race with the leaders and then drop out and turn it into a long run. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
