only 10 men under 2:45 and the top 3 were mercenaries from out of town.
Columbus usually yields faster times than this.
This is disappointing.

Global warming. Get used to it. Boston, Chicago, trials... they are all hotter than the previous norm.
Every fall marathon should move its date back two weeks.
Every spring marathon should move its date forward two weeks.
This could solve the problem.
Steve Spense (Neely's dad) won the 1990 race wearing tights. He did not have shorts over them.
global warming attacks the marathon

Yeah. I had a couple of friends running and, judging by splits, their second halves were not pretty.
Weather was like 65 and humid at the start.
Yeah, I had at least one friend there. Haven't had a chance to chat with him, but he was 40 minutes off pace. Normally a very consistent 2:50ish runner.
Hopefully the NYC Marathon will have decent temps.
If it is warm there in November then there is a problem that the marathon industry needs to address.
Tomorrow it will 43 degrees at 8 am warming to a balmy 51 by 11 am!!!
A couple stats from Columbus the last few years to give you an idea of how the conditions impacted results. Looking here at how many people broke 3 hrs as a reasonable overall gauge of the field's performance.
In 2015, Columbus was 31 degrees at the start. 121 people broke 3 hrs
2016 was 60 degrees at the start. 95 people broke 3 hrs.
2017 - 69 degrees! at the start. And, 85% humidity and 65 dew point. Oh, and really windy too. Only 55 people broke 3 hrs.
Very few people adjusted their paces for the conditions and the awful splits showed it. Lots of people blowing up -- due to dehydration, not glycogen depletion.
The finishing numbers were down at Columbus this year in both the marathon and half marathon.
The trend continues. Marathon participation and half marathon participation is going down at almost every race. If the reason is way too high entry fees then hallelujah. Runners have had enough of getting ripped off when trying to enter a marathon race.
This is not George Bush's fault!
Temps were insane at start and did not abate all throughout the morning. For some added fun around 10:30 for the mere mortals who were still struggling and those that imploded due to the heat/humidity the winds picked up to a nice 20-25 mph breeze with gusts higher... (Nope the temps did not give way nor did the humidity)....
Not a fun day...
I've run Columbus 4 times in the past and the weather was always perfect...clear, 40s at the start, low humidity. This year we have had unseasonable weather through the weekend, but yesterday and today it has been back to normal. (I haven't run it in years though, a little bit too big now)

Closer to 70 at the start... made for a brutal day for those of us who failed to adjust out goals for the day!
I haven't been to Columbus since they added the half marathon. The half is the reason for the huge numbers of runners at the start. When I ran it Columbus allowed a person to pick up his number and chip on race morning. This is no longer allowed so a person needs to come to Columbus on Saturday and stay at a hotel. I used to drive to Columbus on race morning.
This is the most important reason I have not run Columbus recently although I would like to do it again.

I won the relay one year and didn't wake up until after the race started. My teammate picked up my bib with his that morning. I met him at the 10 mile mark so I didn't get my bib number until an hour after the race started!!!
Fortunately we decided I was running the second half of the race.
